I really enjoy these three Tolkien lovers discussing the Amazon Prime show. They provide honest opinions and interesting context by referencing the books and other adaptations. I appreciate their fair balance of praise and criticisms. Even if I don’t always agree with their opinions (though I...Read full review »

I have enjoyed PPP for years, and find most of the critique of TRoP useful, but not enjoyable. I’ve held my tongue on Sara for long enough: Sara can’t let go of her preachy negativity and scolding Nanny tone and perspective, unless it is to praise a female actress. If she continues unabated, I...Read full review »

The Rings of Power has been a huge disappointment for me and Im done with it. This on the other hand is much more entertaining. Little bit liberal which grinds my gears slightly but we all have faults. Worthy

I look forward to each week’s breakdown of the latest episode. I highly recommend this show to anyone who wants greater understanding of Tolkien and the show.

I can only listen to this is very short bursts. Listen to more than 1 episode in a row and it become insufferable how much they make the same jokes over and over and laugh at them just as hard every time. They get in these negative feedback loops too, where they complain about something...Read full review »

An Englishwoman, an Australian and an American all walk into a podcast booth—- and discuss all things RoP with extensive knowledge and deep affection for the works of the great J.R.R. Tolkien. I went into the TV series thinking ‘let’s see if it’s really as bad as Reddit said it was’ and much to...Read full review »

I LOVE this podcast. I don’t understand the negative reviews. The quality is top-notch even if I don’t always agree with their opinions. The hosts are three Tolkien scholars who go through each episode scene-by-scene. They give their opinions and why, and they include Middle Earth history, events...Read full review »

Alan, Sara, and James have really clicked this season, and have developed an easy rapport that makes listening fun. I find them neither bizarrely positive (like Rings and Realms), nor disgustingly negative (like the trolls I won’t name)… it’s the Goldilocks zone! I think they should do a Jackson...Read full review »

I’m a long time Tolkien fan. Love the lore and don’t see any reason at all to change it. For this reason I wasn’t a big fan of the ROP show. Listening to you guys has softened that stance. Ye are fair and factual, funny and frank. I’m now happy out watching the show for the visuals and the music....Read full review »

Not sure where the outright silly 1 star reviews of this pod came from. Goooo back to the shadows!!! ;) LOVE these three stellar youthful Tolkien knowledge keepers and their upbeat fan praise and smart critiques throughout the Rings of Power seasons 1 and 2 so far. Coming from someone who has only read The Hobbit but LOVES the movies and LOVES Rings of Power, I love this podcast! I may disagree at times but that’s the fun, hearing all perspectives, especially ones who love Tolkien so dearly. Can’t wait for more 🩷💛

Hi!!! This is an 11 year old new to Tolkien’s world. Your podcast has helped me understand it through the Rings of Power. Thank you for addressing people’s concerns in the new episode but I also hope you can spoil the show less. Like a previous person, I have not read all the lore and you guys...Read full review »

The episode covering S2 Ep8 was somewhat embarrassing- listening to 3 adults having a hissy fit about criticism and making barbed comments like sulky teenagers throughout. Come on people - it’s not a good look. Shame, as the context and analysis of the show’s interpretation of the source material...Read full review »

Updating, this was my season 1 opinion- As someone who has read LOTR and the hobbit but is not familiar with the silmarillion I appreciated the context of the original text of the 1st and 2 nd ages of middle earth and the fact that the hosts didn’t hate on the show- they had some understandable...Read full review »

One of my favorite podcasts. The only critique I have is that the hosts sometimes forget the show’s audience isn’t made up solely of book fans who are familiar with every volume of «The History of Middle-earth». Not too negative but not fully buying all the nonsense in Rings of Power. However, James being the constant fan-fic apologist is getting old. He always has an excuse, often bogus, for the poor writing on the show. It makes it a bit difficult to listen to.

Firstly, I must say that overall, I enjoy the analysis of the RoP episodes and the references to the lore. Along with the Prancing Pony podcasts, it’s a great listen for Lord of the Rings fans. I really want to like this show bc I’m genuinely interested in the lore behind Rings of Power. Great analysis. With their expert knowledge of the works of Tolkien they fill in the gaps, clarify and highlight the best and worst elements of the show. Claim to be experts in LOR but missing so many nuances. Lots better podcasts out there to explain the subtleties the viewers may have missed. After listening to two episodes, I have learned a lot about the hosts’ grievances with the show and very little about anything else.

I find the guys chat lively and it’s a great listen. However, the over analysis and need to challenge every little thing that has not been spoonfed to them by the show is a bit wearing.
