Matt Guilder - The joy of the amateur
Listen now
Description
Borderline obsessed with running? We've all been there - including our guest this week: Matt Guilder. Matt is a trainee vicar from Lancashire, and a keen (fast!) amateur runner. Despite growing up around elite athletes, (Dave Moorcroft used to come to tea) he started running a little later in life as a way to stay fit. He's had times of life when he's thrown himself into running to a level that was unhealthy and fed anxiety, but over time he's worked out how to get the best for himself out of running - finding joy through making friends, being himself rather than proving himself, being competitive, but keeping running the fun thing. In this episode we talk to Matt about how he checks out people's shoes before their faces, random shot put records on power of 10, the infamous Shropshire Country Steeplechase Championships of 2017, and the potential marginal gains of beetroot juice. There's some serious stuff in there too! Go Do: Our Go-Do this week is less of an exercise and more of a challenge. What are the communities in your life that you've neglected recently? Are there some people or places that you should visit or connect with this week that will refresh you and help get the balance and perspective back on life? If there are, go spend some time with them. We'd love to see how you get on!
