Looking over the reviews don’t shine a bright enough light on the wonderful content The Talk Show delivers. I think the joy can come from the hidden gems within a show that only a fully engaged audience gets to appreciate. For an ever-more overly stimulated population seeking instant...Read full review »

Not that bright this one… The job of returning the cart has to do with moving the carts from parking lot cart collection back up to the store front. The secondary part of the job is collecting the carts a/s/sh/ole/s like you leave siting around the parking lot. You aren’t that busy and certainly...Read full review »

Beats me how Mr Gruber and Co. still cannot manage the timestamps in this show. Start and end points for ads are never precise. What’s up with that?
Jozsó via Apple Podcasts · Hungary · 08/24/22
I used to listen for Gruber’s tech insights, which are good, but tire of the constant political commentary. He should separate and do a political commentary show if he wants, but I’ve stopped listening. I also agree with other reviews about the rambling — especially the first 5-10 minutes with...Read full review »

I like Gruber, but it’s hard to listen to this podcast. He’s arguably the greatest long-lasting Apple commentator, and his blog reflects that when he’s not writing an unhinged rant about how half the voting public are bigots. That ironic bigotry occasionally slips into this podcast, but that’s...Read full review »

Too many F-bombs in latest episode. Made me not very interested in this show anymore. Unsubscribed.

Sometimes leans in too much into US specific topics (sports…), but otherwise great. Always looking forward to the next podcast. ✌️

The host has some great geeky guests on his show and conveniently has show notes.

I’m not a fan of the new chat show style get a guest on to plug XYZ format. They’re usually so niche that I don’t find the episodes nearly as engaging. Nothing wrong with the odd one to break up the usual regular guests every now and again but every week is a bit much

This is a good show to listen to (especially at night 😅) If you like tech you’ll like this show! Some people complain about ‘to much sports’ and I don't agree, in the whole time I've listened to this podcast, I have barely heard sports. Overall, a great show.Read full review »

Long time ago this show was full on insight and analysis of Apple. It could literally predict the future. Right now it’s John talking to his friends about sports and opinions about this and that. It feels like it’s mostly driven by personal biases than critical understanding.

Occasionally too much sportsball. He’s no relation to Hans. But other than that it’s all good grumpy fun. Thanks!

I don’t subscribe to a tech podcast to hear political talk. In his most recent podcast he disparaged listeners of the Joe Rogan Podcast.

Probably by being a fan boy, should probably learn how to talk at normal speed, great laugh; totally not distracting or weird

He doesn’t respond to anything other people say. He only forms a new thesis and digresses each time he opens his mouth, but never actually responds to what was said to him. I remember when this podcast was THE podcast to listen to each week or every other week. Today I’ve officially unsubscribed. Gruber just doesn’t seem to care anymore, and/or is perfectly comfortable with putting in as little effort as possible. And it amazes me that, from an outsider looking in,...Read full review »

Gruber has great insights, as evidenced by what he writes on his site. The big problem with this podcast is the many insufferable guests. I don’t know if the tone of the show changed or if I did. But now it feels like an obnoxious guy listening to himself speak. A rant-a-palooza. For some reason he gets to invite interesting people, who might get the chance to speak 5 minutes per 2 hour episode.

(I didn’t realise it still mattered Mr Gruber.) The conclusion I've come to is simply that the new "Talk Show with John Gruber" is never going to become the old "Talk Show" which featured Dan Benjamin as Mr Gruber's sideman. It may become, over time, something as...Read full review »

I like this show. I’m a “tech enthusiast,” which just means I follow tech through various websites and newspapers, and indulge mostly in Apple products. I used to listen to a large number of tech podcasts. Most have a pair or a small group of hosts, and almost invariably I dislike listening to at least one of them, typically the ones not named John. What was once a smart look at apple from a fan has become nothing but apple marketing. Executive puff pieces and no real criticism. Johns uncritical take on Apples backflip on privacy was the final straw form me.

Same 6 or so people show up in more than 80% of the episodes. This was my favorite podcast for a long time, even after the transition from 5by5. But in recent years it just seems like Gruber is coasting. Episodes are released infrequently and erratically. This pod used to be entertaining but Gruber has gone off the rails, finding faux injustice everywhere and the virtue signaling has become nauseating. Also he sounds slightly drunk and slow, almost as if statins are addling his mind. Pity.

Update: 9 years on and I’ve long since gotten over the 5by5 split, so I’m updating my review. The host is an aging Apple iPhone enthusiast that’s no longer relevant in today’s complex tech world and he seems lost. He has also gone fully hard left politically which just cuts his USA audience in half. People don’t want a cell phone reviewer to impose their political views on them.

Used to be a great tech podcast. They need to reclassify it as a Political podcast, because that is all it is. Now if you are not a liberal and agree with everything Gruber says, you should just not listen. Sad.

I haven’t listened in a while, but just recently thought I would give it another try. It continues to go down hill. John seems to invites guest on the show, talks at them for an hour.
