It's... okay.
A more honest rating is 3.5 stars but as that isn't possible and 3 feels a little harsh, 4 it is. I came across this after looking for a narrative podcast to listen to after binging Serial. The premise for this podcast was fascinating. I loved hearing the various stories of the people profiled here. But with each passing episode, I couldn't help but wonder, "does this thread pull these stories any tighter?" In the last episode, I kept waiting for that WHOA moment, the moment when you see just how tightly, incredibly, impossibly interwoven these stories are. It never came. If the thread were pulled out of the story from the Russian revolutionary to the death of Lennon, you wouldn't be able to tell difference, really. And the thing is, I'm not difficult to impress. I'm a really enthusiastic person when it comes to new ventures with premises as interesting as this one, but it just didn't deliver. By the end I was left thinking, "Well, with this kind of tracing and weaving, you could probably claim I wouldn't have been born if Caesar didn't cry on his 33rd birthday." I don't know. It's... alright.Read full review »

More reviews of The Thread
I like the premise of this podcast series, which examine a thread tying seemingly unrelated events and people in history together. The historical sound and expert interviews are all really well done, making it authoritative as well as entertaining. So many things I never knew before!

Seriously, Tarana Burke should have had an entire episode. Not that I’m saying Gloria Steinem was undeserving of her...Read full review »

After listening to the first episode I can't wait for the second. The surface of a web of small, yet world-changing, events is scratched in this episode and leaves me wanting more. The pacing of the narrative is spot-on so I felt immersed yet could also complete chores around the house. I...Read full review »
