Welcome to Day Six of our 30-day meditation practice. Today we will focus our meditation on our senses. As we do this please remember, meditation is for everyone, regardless of any sensory limitations.
Connect with the senses that resonate with you, and allow yourself to experience the world around and inside you in a new and beautiful way.
Begin by finding a comfortable seated position. Take a deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Then, once again, breathe in deeply, and exhale slowly. Continue to follow deep breaths.
Now, bring your awareness to your sense of sight. Allow your eyes to relax and let go of any tension. Without focusing on anything in particular, simply allow yourself to take in the world with a soft gaze. As you breathe in, imagine filling your body with the beauty of the world around you. As you exhale, release any stress or tension you may be holding onto.
Now, bring your awareness to your sense of sound. Listen to the sounds around you, both near and far. Notice how each sound has its own unique quality. Allow the sounds to flow in and out of your awareness without judgment or expectation.
Next, bring your awareness to your sense of touch. Notice the sensation of your clothes against your skin, the temperature of the air on your face, and the weight of your body on the ground. Take a moment to appreciate the simple pleasure of physical sensation.
Now, bring your awareness to your sense of taste. Without moving your mouth, simply notice any tastes or flavours present in your mouth. Take a moment to savour the experience of taste.
Finally, bring your awareness to your sense of smell. Take a deep breath, and allow yourself to smell the world around you. Even if you cannot smell, imagine the sensation of inhaling a fresh and invigorating aroma.
Take one final deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Then, when you feel ready, open your eyes and take a moment to appreciate the sensory experience you have just had.
