Fil is a master at setting a mood. Sometimes I hold off on listening so I can save episodes for late night highway drives on my own in the middle of nowhere.

Eclectic, imaginative, meditative - the Wind is our call from Nature and History to be still.

Take a listen! Start with the prologue. I love imagining all these sounds and thoughts emanating from a homemade desk in the Sierra Nevadas. Such a gorgeous reflection on listening and on the wind and on where we are.

After hearing this show featured on 99% Invisible, I had to have more. Listening to this show is like being able to sit down at Fil’s desk in the woods, and put on a well-fitting pair of their particular brand of opaque dust-colored listening glasses. It feels like home. Highly recommend.

I’m new to this podcast so am hopping between seasons 1&2. Neither have disappointed. Tapestry comes to mind if I have to choose only one word to describe The Wind. So much wonderful detail linked with story telling, music and nuances I might normally miss. This is an instant hit for me.

I love this podcast and am so happy that Fil is back with a second season. I have long admired Fil’s storytelling! They weave together so many beautiful threads— history, culture, desire, identity, place, practices of noticing, gestures of care— and I always come away with much to mull over and...Read full review »

Hard to categorize, but I think I can confidently say the common threads in all of these are the sounds (music, voice, animals, nature.) There’s so much more, though. History, the Great Basin, Language, word paintings, our relationships with each other and with the world around us. I just...Read full review »

I recently listened to the entire Van Sounds podcast series.Fil Corbitt is a thorough researcher and storyteller and his use of word, sound and music is masterful. The first episode of The Wind dives into frontier music. It also challenges a lot of the American history that I learned in...Read full review »

This show ranges from beautiful memoir style to a kind of questing to know more that feels like 99% Invisible-meets-the-rural-west. I love the mixture of styles and topics, all well done.

Love listening to this podcast as I road trip through the West. Especially enjoy the episode that uncovers the history of yodeling! Was a fun blend of ethnomusicology and awesome archival yodeling tape.

Always have a soft spot for the coyotes. This episode confirmed why: they are ancient. The coyote howl is “the original American Anthem.” Also, when I’m camping and hear what sounds like a pack of coyotes celebrating a kill, I will now take comfort that maybe it’s just a couple of them having a...Read full review »

Humble deep stories about people and places told with compassion and poetry. I love being surprised by sonic choices, and that's happened with multiple episodes of this lovely poignant show. If you like Home of the Brave and Rumble Strip, you'll have found yourself another favorite.Read full review »

there are so many ways to talk about this podcast…. but Corbitt’s message with “the wind” is all about Listening. in a time when it feels like all the world wants to do is scream, Fil reminds us of the power in truly listening to the sounds around us. with episodes featuring the sonic inputs of...Read full review »

The Wind makes space for a new wave of folk stories: with beautifully written, humble narration, the show exhibits a path not often walked to the listener - without ever being obtuse.

The wind enters us when we’re born, and leaves us when we die. This show is about everything in between - the way we use wind to form songs, stories, to create change. Plus there’s a lot of cool weird noises, and great music. If you’re a fan of meandering, explorative storytelling, a la...Read full review »
