Came for the nuanced discussion of complex issues, left for the continued framing of NATO as the reason for Russia’s invasion.

Bob interviews many interesting thinkers that I have not heard on other podcasts. Also he brings a consistent worldview to each topic. He does not just react. He thinks.

Listening to Bob has become harder and harder since the invasion of Ukraine. Did the west make mistakes in the post-cold war era with Russia? Perhaps they did but his empathy is extending too far in the face of a ruthlessly bloody invasion. But for the chuckles Mickey kaus provides once a week, I...Read full review »

The Ukraine conflict has revealed that Robert Wright's resentment of western elites structures his entire thought. This has made the podcast more a study in personal grievance than an illuminating look at current eventsRead full review »

RW has morphed into an apologist for Putin — and actually suggests that sending weapons to help the Ukrainians defend themselves may not be appropriate. I’ve listened for 2-3 years just to hear a different perspective. But now that RW and co. have shown their real colors, I’m done. Zero stars.

The linguistically parallel word for emotional empathy is mental empathy. Cognitive is certainly a more complex and elegant word than mental, I personally like it better, but mental is simple and clear thus so is it’s meaning. Tel empathy is far too complicated. Also…I cancelled my brief patreon...Read full review »

I really love listening to this podcast. Robert is curious and smart, yet willing to concede his point when he learns something new about a topic that changes his mind. He debates guests with respect and humility and I always learn so much, either from Robert or his guests.

I would like to think I have been listening to the Wright Show since before it was cool, but I’m sure there are BloggingHeads.tv listeners who beat me to it. Best podcast on the web by far. Robert Wright is a super-charming and super-intelligent guy who is into lots of different interesting topics. If you are into intellectual discussions (with a focus on philiosophy and current events) this is a must listen.

Many episodes are interviews and in-depth discussion of topics including evolutionary psychology, mindfulness, physics, foreign policy, morality, and other topics. Then there are the Friday night shows, which Bob describes as discussions with his frenemy Mickey Kaus. Their chemistry is delightful.

I’ve come to rely on Bob and Mickey over the past couple years to keep up with current events. At a time when sensational mainstream and social media seem to steer us all toward outrage, The Wright Show offers a more measured approach to digesting the news. Bob gets amazing guests and has engaging conversations. From psychology to physics to mindfulness to foreign affairs, you are going to learn something. And his weekly conversations with Mickey are a healthy reminder that friendships can transcend politics when both parties are willing to laugh.

Bob is self-deprecating and humble, and has a certain offhand mode of interviewing and digressing that hides the fact he’s among the sharpest thinkers today.
