Rich People Nonsense
First of all, there’s a lot of filler here. Ha ha. Second of all, Vipassana is most definitely not a cult. And has none of the signs of one. Vipassana wants this experience to be available to as many people as possible, even prisoners. Yet there is really no pressure to do it (only to persevere with a retreat). Most people can’t find the time to meditate at home much less 10 whole days. They’re struggling to make ends meet. My suspicion is that having a sustained breakdown after a retreat (not just a short period of adjustment to regular life again) is either coincidental or someone’s mental health was already precarious and anything might set them off.
