Excellent that it’s being addressed
I think it’s fantastic that someone is finally bringing light to the fact that these types of intensive holistic practices can cause people to have psychological breaks. When dealing with trauma, especially C-PTSD which I believe is hugely under diagnosed in our society, it’s of utmost importance that the person’s nervous system is not overwhelmed and that the person has the psychological tools and professional guidance in place to put the “brakes” on anything that is causing extreme distress. The nervous system CANNOT cope with such intense and speedy realisations and emotions that can come from these practices in such a short time frame. The nervous system has been protecting the person from traumas (even a lot of unrealised ones) for sometimes decades, and for it to be opened up in such a fast tracked and unsupervised way is downright dangerous. The terrible state of mind they would have been experiencing at the time is just heartbreaking. Trauma needs to be addressed slowly slowly. Meditation and other holistic practices can be wonderful and so very beneficial, however exposing the nervous system in such a brutal fashion will only cause more harm.

More reviews of Untold: The Retreat
When I heard the psychiatric doctor describe it as the “English disease”, they were exactly right. The problem is not with meditation the problem is with comfortable middle class English people looking to blame anything else other than themselves where the problem is within.

The prerelease gave high expectations that weren’t met with the first episode.

The conclusion is more nuanced but most of the episodes are very one sided and sensational driven.
