Hmmm
Was intrigued by this. As disclosure I do some mediation myself but not lots. Negatives: I normally like the FT for what seems like impartially and weighing up the facts. Good journalism in other words. However, like other reviewers, this comes across as sensationalism. Spooky UFO style music seems overkill. Moreover it’s actually the script that’s annoying. From the first episode it sounds like they’ve reached a forgone conclusion, rather than a balanced look at things. If they eventually reach that conclusion then fair enough, but I would prefer that to be left till the end. Also: it should really be just 1 episode. If it was a podcast with a dramatic structure and lots of twists and turn a then it could warrant many episodes. Or if it was very information heavy. However it’s not so it feels waaaaaaay too drawn out and long winded. Positives: as someone who does mediation a bit, it’s made be consider the negative sides which id never really considered before.

I found this slow, sensationalist and imbalanced. While the personal stories are tragic and important, the tone, music and “spooky” voiceover clips made it feel as if the podcast had no interest in really analysing the varied experiences and nuances around meditation or vipassana.
