“I was an English professor in Tifton for six years, but, like Payne, I was raised in Atlanta. One of the brilliant moves of this podcast was when he called his grandmother. People who don't understand the insider/outsider mindset of south Georgia will undervalue this move, but I thought it was a smart way to gain access to a community and to a dialogue that he otherwise would have been excluded. It's a weird case and Payne has really set an audacious goal. I moved away from the area in May, so the podcast is a like a tether back to our home. Ocilla, Fitzgerald, Tifton, Moultrie, and Nashville are interesting places if you know how to look and listen. Hopefully, this podcast will do the case and the area justice.”Read full review »
