Disrespectful to the victims of drug trafficking
The story itself is interesting, but I would not recommend this podcast. The podcast did practically nothing to explore the negative effects of drug trafficking. The story focused on the positive effects drug trafficking had on the small rural town by bringing in money and making people rich. It did touch on the negative effects trafficking had on the people that were involved in the trafficking (i.e. their prison sentences). However, it did nothing to address the devastating consequences of the crack epidemic in the U.S. and how Varnamtown was a part of the problem. The podcast did nothing to mention the widespread consequences of addiction on people, families, and communities. It really just glorified drug trafficking, which is a huge disrespect to anyone affected by the crack epidemic. This podcast is a good example of unethical journalism.
