One outta two isn’t bad ...
I like the topics that the show covers, both about the product and the industry. But I really do not like the cohost out of New York. He seems to want to come across as the antithesis of the stereotypical wine snob, but he is still extremely opinionated about everything, and doesn’t hold back on criticizing those who disagree with him. It’s just that the topics he discusses and phrases he uses are not the typical snooty somm-speak. For instance I’m listening to their latest episode on wine region speciality and he lays into his cohost about being wrong about what torpedoed Australian wine in the US, he admits he’s going to make his cohost feel bad about his opinion after he offers it, and he is forever crowing about the superiority of NYC over Seattle. Now I love NYC, but he falls into that bro-y Brooklyn hipster stereotype that is pretty basic and tired at this point. Plus, whatever equipment he’s using to record his side of the conversation from NY sounds like he’s talking into an iPhone headset: hollow sound with all sorts of annoying background noise. Now the cohost from Seattle, Zach, is awesome. He is much more calm, cool, collected, and not trying to be showy. He’s a certified somm but speaks without the old-school snootiness of Wine Spectator articles, but also without the frat-boy, snarky, snide zingers of his cohost. I’d love to grab a glass and talk about whatever interests him the moment. Plus the sound quality of his half of the conversation is so much more professional (to be fair I think he records from an actual studio while Adam refords from their office suite in Brooklyn—might wanna consider investing in better equip on the east coast). I think the show would improve vastly if it were just the Zach show instead of Zach & Adam.

I enjoy the insights into parts of the drinks business I wouldn’t normally get exposure to as someone not in the industry. The vibe is fun, keep up...Read full review »
