Walking with Dante
One of the singular pleasures during this period of Covid isolation has been my discovering Mark Scarborough and his podcasts - in particular, Walking with Dante. It is not my first foray into Dante's Comedia but it is the most rewarding. We walk with Dante in a visceral way, experiencing the poem's powerful visual and auditory images so that we are physically as well as intellectually and emotionally connecting with the poem. Mark digs deep into the language and mines references and similes and images to bring up the full impact of the poem. His encyclopedic knowledge and understanding of the poem is impressive, fun, enlightening and never pedantic.
