The insight, details and analysis are second to none. Have listened to every podcast going back to day one, fantastic! Ties in well with my dad's France stories, wounded at Falaise. Captain Cdn tank battle commander. Their current Dunkirk series is all I can listen to, such detail, timely...Read full review »

Excellent and informative podcast from 2 highly knowledgeable hosts. Often very funny (brigadiers stuck in attics, US generals near but not actually on their objectives, etc). Sometimes unintentionally hilarious. Listen to Dunkirk day 5 when rival historian Seb Cox refuses to agree with anything...Read full review »

If you have even a fleeting interest in WWII this is the pod for you. Al and James discuss all things war related, with a fair few tangents thrown in. They both have extensive knowledge of the war and I guarantee any knowledge gaps will be filled.

I do find this podcast extremely interesting but I am finding Al’s interruptions and need to be heard (at alarming decibels) increasingly frustrating. I can listen to James all day long. I can only listen to Al in very short bursts. Breakaway James, breakaway.

This is probably the finest WW2 podcast out there right now. Before listening, I assumed that the wonderful James Holland would bring the history, with Al Murray providing the laughs, wisecracks and silly questions. I was wrong. While James Holland is just as good as you would expect if...Read full review »

My dad was a soldier at Dunkirk. An interesting point about soldiers picked up from the beach that I have never heard anyone refer to was revealed by my lovely auntie Doris who died recently in her care home. She was telling me about my dad arriving back in Ramsgate IN HIS PANTS. When I asked him...Read full review »

Great chemistry between the guys and they make the subject matter interesting. Tally ho ! Al’s old man came in this week with tales of Dunkirk. What a great bloke.

Great show...great host’s, great content... on a personal note, please can we have more content on the war in the Far East. My dad and uncle were at the fall of Singapore and would love to hear you guys discussing it as you bring great insight into these topics. Ps...have just voted!

During these strange times the podcast has been a great friend. Love the banter, love the material, enjoy the guests.

Really great podcast, I do love it! My drop in star is for the constant talking over each other... seems others have noticed it too...

Saw Al on the one show blatantly plugging this pod so thought I’d give it a go seeing as I’ve read Toms first 2 books War in the West The pod is excellent but I’m bloody disappointed in Tom as he’s just said the next one will be ready in 2022 😳 It’s been on pre order at Amazon since last year...Read full review »

Al and James make an excellent dup. Casual, entertaining, informative and friendly. The content is wide ranging and demonstrates their broad range of knowledge about World War 2. Ignore this podcast at your ignorance and peril.

Rarely have I lstened to a Podcast which keeps getting better and better but this does! love it.

Have really enjoyed this over the last year but finding Al Murray increasingly hard to listen to, he’s neither as interesting or as funny as he thinks he is, and is pretty incoherent too. If they could be recorded on separate channels so I could take one earphone out that would be perfect!
AndyPingu via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 05/13/20
James and Al I love this podcast and listen to everything - can I put in a request that you do an episode on “Switzerland during WW2”. There must be so many amazing stories of politics, collaboration + spies from 1939-45 and there seems to be hardly any airtime given to this on other history...Read full review »

Very good podcast and James and Al have bucket loads of knowledge and charisma. My only criticism is that they need to cover the Eastern Front which is currently almost completely absent in their discussions, despite it being the most significant theatre to the Allied victory over the Axis.

I’ve listened to almost every episode and it is fascinating stuff. I initially thought Al and James viewed WWII through khaki-tinted glasses, but I have to say I was wrong. They do their best to give other services their due, although the Royal Navy does get short shrift (a bit odd considering...Read full review »

Great show. Combines wit and irreverence with extensive erudition and serious well argued historical revisionism. Myths are busted. Light is shone in dark corners. Al Murray and James Holland dig into the Second World War with passion and some humour - each episode is somewhere between an interesting seminar and 2 guys talking down the pub…. What a great way to pass the time during the Corona lockdown!!
