I happened on this via Facebook got addicted when listening to the episodes on Casino and Italy. Loved the interaction between them and how they both explain things with detail and care as well as a sense of humour on difficult subject. Loved Master of the Air episodes too as listens to pod cast...Read full review »

New listener here and I have bounced around a few episodes from over the years. These guys have great info but are almost always a bit too jovial in their delivery considering the subject matter at hand. Every episode that I've listened to feels overly lighthearted and the guys are yucking it...Read full review »

I have learned so much listening to this well researched and extremely well delivered podcast. Only one thing I ask from Al Murray: please stop using the Lord’s name in vain. With your hug vocabulary it is avoidable and unnecessary. Thank you!

Lighthearted history, Generally a stream of consciousness analysis both informed and uninformed, very Anglo centric

This used to be my favourite podcast, bar none. The last few months I’ve dialled back on my listening. John McManus used to be a very occasional guest, with the odd podcast being focused on the American experience during the war. But now, it seems they other episode features a specific USA focus....Read full review »

I tend to save them up and binge listen whilst gardening or something similar - always funny, always insightful about a subject that still plays a massive part in how we see the world

In episode 9, I saw a beer mug, towards the end when Crowley was talking to Rosie in the club. It was also in 12 O’Clock High!!!

This pod has made my job of delivery and collection van driving throughout the UK these last 2 years a whole lot bearable. Listening to Al, James and guests explaining what happened during WW2 and what a great generation had to go through to fight and survive against tyranny. I just wish the...Read full review »

The exact podcast style and content I was looking for. Absolutely enjoyable, fascinating, educational, endearing, and consuming. My best mate and I will be doing these same discussions in retirement and I cannot wait.

This is the way to discuss all aspects of WW2. Fact based, analytical with a touch of dark and light humor. Glad I found it.

Simply the most informative and enjoyable podcast on the second world war. Understandably coming from a British perspective, it’s still manages to cover those from other countries in a very balanced fashion. I highly recommend this podcast for those wanting a wide variety of deep dives and...Read full review »

To be frank this podcast is basically two posh boys talking about the Second World War and flogging books in the process. That said it is very interesting, highly informative with some excellent guests who aren’t just selling something. Recently they’ve joined the trend for podcasts teasing...Read full review »

Before the war, James Stewart was mostly cast in very lighthearted, comedic roles. His first movie after returning from his tour of combat was “Its a Wonderful Life”. The film was directed by another combat veteran, Frank Capra. I can’t begin to imagine what it must have been like, but with your...Read full review »

This show is a joy to listen to. If you are interested in World War Two in any way then this the podcast for you. The detail you get is colossal, the chemistry brilliant. This is my favourite podcast.

Top notch experts and primary sources of history. Few other podcasts can attract such great talent such as James Webb and others. Thank you for your great delivery of information and history that spans military, industrial, scientific and social domains.

I consider this the best of the WW2 podcasts. New episodes come out often. It’s given over to a sense of humor. Some who wish a more professorial approach may chose elsewhere (I do both). These guys are British, so expect a noticeably less emphasis on the Russian front and the US effort in the...Read full review »

Hi Al and James, I’ve arrived about as late to your podcast as the Russian interpretation of the Allies at Normandy. Better late than never I guess. I’m only up to episode 10 of series 1 (yes that late) but it’s daily listening for me now. Absolutely fantastic!

After being a listener for a few years now I’ve finally hung up my boots and checked out. I just can’t stand the endless bigging himself up from Holland and Murray’s constant cackling put on laugh. Just started listening to this while at work, and I will say I am very impressed with this podcast. I learn so much from it. I have several books by James Holland and seen several documentaries featuring James, and still he blows me away. I love the Canadian content as well.

I’ve been listening to this podcast since lockdown in 2020. The Dunkirk day by day episodes hooked me back into my fascination of the Second World War, of which, I’d shelved for about a decade.
