I am new to this podcast and would not have got through lockdown without it It’s funny full of WW2 info but us brings a bit of realism to the historical content If you are fascinated by WW2 as I am it’s an absolute must

A proper analysis and discussion of events, by passionate people. Unbiased and informative with lots of funny moments and tales of real heroism and damn fine Britishness sprinkled all over it. Top pod 👍
Darkspark81 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 01/12/21
Always good to listen to over breakfast. If only the correct James Hollan was credited as a contributor instead of Dr James D Hollan, a well respected professor of cognitive science, it would be even better!!!

Absolutely fantastic! Love the combination of accurate history and dome humour!!!
Andrewstug via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 01/05/21
This is a fantastic podcast with really extraordinary stories and tales of heroism. It is spoilt, however, by James’s constant use of “sort of” of “kind of” or the doubly annoying “kind of, sort of” It spoils my enjoyment of an otherwise very informative and entertaining podcast.

Outstanding pod chaps, I haven’t missed one, and many I’ve listened to on numerous occasions. However I am surely not the only listener who will be urgently needing the services of Better Help if I hear Al’s voice reading that bloody advert again. Once an episode is irritating, twice is...Read full review »

This is amazing!! It’s not easy finding a podcast that is feeds the appetite of the history buff and is hilarious at the same time. This is the perfect pairing. I’m a huge fan of James Holland and all of his works. And combined with the brilliant Al Murray, this is absolutely spectacular. I’m on...Read full review »

The bias is quite clear to hear from the few episodes I listened to. So if you are not British, it sometimes gets annoying. They clearly are passionate and have done in dessert research. But they are also fanboys.

I discovered We Have Ways in March last. I am not exaggerating when I say it has helped me stay sane. Living as I do, alone, it has almost become a companion. Catching up on previous episodes has revitalised my interest in the war into which I was born in 1942. Thank you boys, for the company,...Read full review »

I really like the style, but the content was superficial in the extreme. Al Murray and James appear to be about the only people that believe the 13.5.41 communique. (Hess went mad and flew to the enemy). If they did their homework they would soon discover this to be most unlikely.
Harris.Hess via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 12/15/20
This podcast has filled the gaping hole left by not being able to see friends during lockdown. While some find the stuttered wandering of Al and over-talking of James irritating, I consider it a perfect proxy for the drunken pub talks that I miss so much. At the end of every episode I can’t help...Read full review »

This podcast has started to ramble. I’ve listened since the beginning and they started with focus and now they just sound like they’re chatting at random and half of the wittering could easily be cut to leave you with a podcast half as long. I also can’t stand the stuttering and repeating...Read full review »

In Ireland we pronounce the name “Moran” “More-an” not “Mor-Anne”, the English football commentators always made the same mistake when Kevin Moran played for Man UTD. I also was in the Irish reserve army in the 80s and trust me that made me an expert on the lee Enfield rifle , not tanks.

Amazing stories, superbly told. Particularly moving to hear from WW2 veterans. Their modest recounting of events is truly jaw dropping at times.

A terrific interview. I am fascinated by the entire process. Is it true that there were Chinese casualties for helping the escaped Raiders? I had a great uncle who survived as a POW of the Japanese. I used to love this podcast but am finding it increasingly unlistenable as Al Murray just needs to STFU more often. I’ve just suffered him giving his ill-informed opinion on the Telemark operation, and then rambled on telling James what James’s opinion is. Al You have to stop it Starting a sentence, failing to finish it, jumping onto another sentence half way through, mumbling and bumbling incoherently. Just listened to the BJ episodes ; outstanding. Was struggling with a 14 hr shift on a tractor and this helped pull me through. There is a lot of dross out there in podland, some of it trading off the name of a celeb type but this is not one of those . Good banter , good knowledge and a great show .

Pros: Amiable, informative, and a good laugh. Cons: James (mostly) prone to not just putting his foot in his mouth, but ramming it down his gullet.
