This is usually a very informative and entertaining SCIENCE program. But the 8 July episode where a few changes in a very small number of species because of particular stimuli is extrapolated out to supposedly raise questions about the binary nature of human biology leads me to question just...Read full review »

I hate it! Everyone who gives 1 stars to this stupid podcast is perfectly sensible. Oh, by the way if you were wondering why I am being so mean? Oh I am just being sensible! From someone sensible. ...Read full review »

Ann interviews with such warmth and intelligence. It’s rare to find a podcast that combines super interesting and articulate interviews with such brilliant writing. I love the facts I’m learning while marvelling at a brilliant one-liner or laughing at a witty piece of colloquial writing.

Anne Jones you rock!

Well, I recently discovered that the title of this esteemed podcast, namely, “What the Duck?” originated from a spell check correction! Love it. Ann’s whit, humour and natural charm infuse the podcast’s solid scientific base with unmitigated joy and passion for nature. Love it! :-)

I’m a pigeon enthusiast but I don’t breed them, I don’t race them. I observe them wherever I can and Australia is an exceptional place to see numerous fabulous species of pigeons.

This podcast is always interesting, the approach to every topic is both funny and scientific. Guaranteed a grin and chuckle in each episode.

How do I share my new favourite science podcast with all my friends, without seeming like I’m a weirdo?! You just have to listen to get it!

A winning combination of science and humour. It doesn’t get any better!

I just want to listen to endless What the Duck episodes. My brain may explode but I’d be entertained until then. Best sound fx in the business. Ann Jones has a second career in writing if she fails in her science job. My fave !

I like Anne Jones as a science communicator, a lot. Off Track was a better, more interesting and more diverse offering. Off Track's occasional wackiness and humour added to the unique texture of that program, leavening the earnestness of the show. What The Duck lacks so much I love about Dr...Read full review »

My insomniac wife told me about this podcast. It’s a great listen and fun. Love the host.

I love Dr Ann Jones’ podcast. Her guests are interesting and knowledgeable, the topics fascinating, and Ann asks insightful questions and injects humour. The 12th November episode about cicadas was magnificent. If he hasn’t got the idea in progress already, I hope Dr Lindsay Popple designs a...Read full review »

What the duck is a wonderful show. If only I had had science teachers with the knowledge, passion & sense of fun that Dr Ann Jones displays. Keep it up.

At my school one day it rain and rain and stopped after a while it again so I’m asking you Ann

Ann Jones’ annoying ‘play school’ style spoils what could have been an interesting program. Why does she feel she has to dumb down the science, and add all these corny and immature references?
cc cobs via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 10/03/22
Interesting and hilarious in equal portions. Loving this one.
ainzfern via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 09/27/22
I have such a ‘brain crush’ on this show! I learn very cool stuff, I giggle at the goofy, clever jokes, and just feel happier after listening. Thank you for making this and for being both self-aware and completely unconcerned with being “proper”.

Please bring back off track, it was a much better format and treated the audience like intelligent adults. Everything does not need to be quirky, weird or ‘explained’.
H.Collingridge via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 08/09/22
The scientific information is generally good and presented in an easy to understand way, with good choices for guests. However it is brought down needlessly by Ann seeming to rarely miss an opportunity to make racist comments. For example, in the episode on animals that mine she said: “Shout...Read full review »

Just discovered the program. Education about the natural world with a unique voice and delightfully sly humor. Really disappointed that there are only ten episodes so far. I have no character, so I have listened to them all and am now at the mercy of the publication schedule.
