“I've been listening to this podcast ever since I heard them do a live session at a writing conference some years ago. I started from the first and I've heard every episode. It adds up over time, but I really like the 15 minute format, which is actually more like 20 minutes.
Is it perfect? No. In fact, I'd say that it has probably gone downhill some from the earlier seasons when they probably got some of the stuff wrong.
In the beginning, they mostly talked about their own stuff. All of their examples were from their own writing. Then they started getting better. With the last couple of seasons though, when they varied the hosts for the sake of diversity, I think they've gone downhill. They've brought on a bunch of hosts that just talk about their own stuff again. I thought they handled the lack of diversity well enough with guest speakers. The hosts they've picked go back to their amateur self-promoting days of season one and season two without being nearly so fun and enjoyable.
When Mary came on back in whichever season that was, Dan stopped talking. You'll only really hear him now if some of the guests are gone. He had good comments in the early years and I miss those. Brandon talks a lot less too, much to my chagrin.
Howard... He's funny. Not sure he adds much unless you want to end everything you write with a punchline.
But I still think it's a great podcast, especially if taken in its entirety. I didn't get much off the other podcasts I listened to, mostly because they were so long, but over the years I've loved listening from this one, even if it isn't as good as it used to be.”Read full review »

“This podcast is ideally titled. It is all about excuses NOT to write. Talk about tv, watch tv, absolutely. Teach people how to be hacks? This show does it in spades. Learn about the massive talents of Brandon. Listen to Mary associate literature to puppetry. (That is the same as comparing...”Read full review »
