Today’s topic is not far away from anyone’s thoughts. As we look to continue our improvement in this vast subject matter, Phil was once again joined by three more awesome humans from the IOH membership in the form of Sian Raan AIH, Dr Maria Gebbels MIH & Robin Sheppard FIH.
Before we got stuck in to the topic, we once again learned some of the compelling reasons our guests said I’m In to the IOH including
Giving back to the industryTo take hold of all the learning and opportunity as a studentStaying connected with the industryWanting to be part of something that’s bigger than themselvesThe Mentor Me programThe international network.
We couldn’t hope to unpack all elements in this epic subject but we tried our bestto cover some of key issues in this including: -
Diversity is the what and Inclusion is the howYou can have one without the other but they should go hand in handIt can be confusing without clear definitionObviously being focused on Diversity cannot just be a tick box exerciseImportant that organisations such as the IOH walk the talk as many will look to them for guidanceIt can be a challenge to remain up to date, current and relevantWe can also follow what others have done, we don’t always have to take the leadWe can learn more from each other, across our own diverse sectorsWe all have to take responsibility to get educatedWe should shout about our successes in this area, small and largeWe need to get better at talking about everythingDespite how it may feel sometime, we have come a long way on Diversity & InclusionWe need champions of all important matters in every businessThere are wild differences from country to country around the world
A huge thank you to our guests for giving up their time and opinion.
Enjoy!
