Pretty good but with a couple of issues
I doubt anyone is going to read this, but whatever, here goes. I've been a fan of WOFF since you guys started talking about it years ago on SA. I overlooked Abject Suffering, but have been marathoning it while stuck on the graveyard shift. The format is pretty good and I'm a huge fan of the gamefaqs things you two drag up. My problems are probably going to come off as whining, and I'm sorry for that. First off, I'm surprised you let single people submit so many games. It's almost like you have one or two people who are obsessed with the idea of their name being referenced in a somewhat obscure podcast, which is fine. The issue is that as a result you seem to be flooded with mediocre games, and even worse, just rehashes of everything from Angry Video Game Nerd. I think you've come away from over 2/3s of your submissions covered so far with an 'it was okay,' opinion which defeats the point of the show. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather you were honest than just blasting every game just to fit the format. I'm genuinely curious to hear if the comment field on all of your submissions are just a simple 'I rented this once and didn't love it,' or 'I saw this on AVGN, now it's your turn to bash it.' The second issue is going to sound even more nitpicky. I just got through your Ganja Farmer episode, and I was pretty offended by your opinion of cannibis. I've had two uncles, a neighbor, and a good friend all literally drink themselves to death and it was sad to hear you two put weed on a lower or at best equal level with drinking. My neighbor was having vodka smuggled into her while in hospice care for liver failure and that's stuck with me from a young age. I'm not upset that it's personally not for you, that's great. My best friend loathes the way it makes him feel, but at least he doesn't hold the opinion that it makes me a bad person, or someone who just hasn't 'grown up' for occasionally enjoying it. It's about the only thing that helps with my crippling social anxiety. I actually get the opposite reaction to the couch lock Gary seems to get as it lets me leave my house and enjoy life. I had to quit a while back for job related reasons and maybe I'm just being bitter, I don't know. Hearing you equate people who smoke with that reprehensible guy behind Ganja Farmer felt like when a longtime coworker of mine recently just blurted out some really homophobic rant out of nowhere. The point of podcasts, to me anyway, is to simulate a conversation with people with similar interests. That whole episode just left a real bad taste in my mouth. I'll probably quickly get over it, rewrite this review, and bump it up to 5 stars. I'm just bummed out, I guess.Read full review »

More reviews of Abject Suffering
Which is to say, it's as entertaining and often tangential as drunken pub chats, only coherent, and genuinely funny. Gary and Kole are always fun to listen to, and this strange cousin to their more grounded shows is my pleasant, casual podcast favourite.Read full review »

Learn about all sorts of bizarre games, trends and companies and bask in the absurd places Gary and Kole’s minds lead. Its length also makes it perfect for your commute, lunch break or chores around the house. Always brightens my day.
