Episode 8 is irresponsible fear-mongoring
I was enjoying this podcast for the most part and felt like it was sharing an interesting array of voices — until episode 8. The mother of the young woman who tragically died very young of cancer seems convinced that a past egg donation had increased her daughter’s cancer risk. It’s only natural for a grieving parent to look for explanations, and my heart goes out to the mother. But it is the host’s responsibility to do some scientific research and bring in some experts about hormonal risk factors for colon cancers. It’s true that egg donors are not well followed up (and that would be a GREAT topic to explore), but we do know a lot about risk factors for various cancers and it’s not all that plausible that the hormone injections were linked to this young woman’s cancer. To insinuate so unabashedly (including in the title of the episode) that egg donation caused the cancer is grossly negligent and wholly irresponsible of the host and the producer of this podcast. I hope that a disclaimer can be attached to this episode for future listeners, and that the producer is more careful in future episodes to avoid spreading baseless conjecture. Thank you.

While the topic is interesting, thus far the whining & self pity of the donor conceived is hard to take at times. Undoubtedly the system is & was very...Read full review »

I’m in love with this podcast. As someone who will have to use sperm donation to conceive, I’ve slowly been questioning and trying to research exactly the topics in this podcast. For anyone who is says this podcast is downplaying the struggles of infertility, I encourage you to look broader. It...Read full review »
