“The Political Gabfest takes dry material and makes it interesting. The Culture Gabfest takes interesting topics and makes them dull.
Why? Two main reasons:
1. They're often not experts on the topics they discuss. They are able to speak about graphic design, or technology trends, or celebrity gossip, but they do so without authority or particular insight.
2. They treat this podcast as an opportunity to show off, and riff on, SAT words. Fun for them. Tedious for the rest of us. Obscure words are not a substitute for substance.
Add to these the sensibility of an over-achieving college seminar student and you get all circus and no bread.”Read full review »

Usual format is to choose 3 current topics/events/people in "culture" (broadly defined, usually NY-based), do a little homework the night before, and chat about each topic for 10 minutes. They go astray if they pick a topic none of them...”Read full review »
