Where do these people come from??
This podcast makes me doubt my love of other Slate productions. Am I really aligning myself with such pretentious twits? Are these really the people that are at the cocktail parties where Emily, John, and Plotz are chattering? If so, I've got to stop my social climbing. The panel is most likely highly knowledgeable but that only occasionally comes through the sneering, condescending commentary. And if they are particularly knowledgeable, I don't see that they use it much to justify the positions they take, it simply isn't very well-reasoned (and please don't choose a topic like basketball again when so profoundly ignorant about the sport). I agree with a previous reviewer that it would be much more interesting hearing the political gabfests take on these issues. It does seem that there is room for a podcast that has a nice discussion on what drives our culture, just not with these people.Read full review »

I listened to this podcast for months (why exactly I can't answer) but was moved to finally unsubscribe (and write this) after listening to Stephen Metcalf's pretentious...Read full review »
