"Sort of, sort of sort of..."
Stephen Metcalf and Dana Stevens are quite astute, but I suggest they listen to themselves once in awhile. The use of the phrase "sort of" (Dana used it 36 times in one film review, Stephen nearly ties her every time he opens his mouth) is their version of the teen pause work "like." I like all the Slate gabfests. I look forward to hearing Dana and Julia spar with the dyspeptic Mr. Metcalf. The show reminds me of long-ago dorm and coffee shop conversations with the artsy crowd at college. If your eyes rolled when this crowd referenced Tolstoy or Bergman, look elsewhere.
