“Weight watchers, Jenny Craig, Nutrisystem, Real Appeal, low carb diets, meal shake replacements - been there done that. None of it stuck.
Weight watchers -it’s all about the scale and shaming you when you gain pounds or miss a session.
Jenny Craig & Nutrisystem - it’s all about their foods. When you stop eating their foods, you gain - there wasn’t any “afterprogram” when I did them.
Real Appeal - through my medical insurance. 1 coach was great and i lost weight ; 1 coach was horrible and I was lying on how much weight I was losing just to get to the end of the program. Then the program ends and they dump you into a FB group for support.
In the 4 weeks since I started trying Megan’s recipes and able to eat really whatever I want in the lean protein, complex carbs, and whole grain options, I feel healthier and have lost a few pounds. It’s not perfect but neither am I. I’m in my 60s and losing weight is so much harder than it used to be.
I’ve learned a few things about myself & the food I eat since I started listening to her podcasts -
#1. I snack a lot when I’m bored
#2. I was under the misapprehension that nuts are protein. They are not. They are fats.
#3 . Calories are not equal and it’s about the substance & balance , not the calories. Yes calories count and over doing calories makes you gain weight, not the food itself.
#4. I try to balance the protein, fat and carbs at each meal. More protein each meal and I snack much less often.
This time I’m doing the changes for ME, not my doctor, not the meal program , not the online coach and the rewards are mine. I decide what I eat, how much I can walk & exercise each day and I try not to beat myself up if I overeat one day or have a low step day. I just move on and try again the next day.
It’s all about putting yourself first. I wasn’t a believer but I am getting there.”
