This could have been so good, but it ended up being extremely disappointing. Seems like they got lazy and decided to go with the medical gaslighting. Perpetuates steriotypes and hurts patients

I like this host/narrator. He has a great voice and I like the way he unfolds the story. The stories themselves are fascinating and the tangent stories tie into and add depth and clarity to the main story. He stays out of the way during his interviews and just allows the other person to tell...Read full review »

I really enjoyed this show. Although ending might not be as fulfilling and many might get angry at it, the show objectively followed the information and excellent story telling.

I binged this until the wee morning hours. Each episode leads into the next with a new viewpoint and completely different location and subject matter. All while maintaining the thread, a good sense of humor and leaving the audience space to draw their own conclusions. Highly recommend.

This podcast was too drawn out. The last episode offered no explanation or insight. We weren’t a fan.

Gripping and intriguing podcast from beginning to end. Thank you Dan

Cynical hipster vibe of host is not a good fit

Love the show and the hosting, hate that every ad is about weight loss… on a show about young women being unwell….

Fascinating story, so cleverly (and funny) narrated. One of the best podcast stories I’ve listened to in a loooong time.

I Loved listening to the podcast. I did background research and I am stunned. Everything said in this Podcast is backed with data on the Internet. I wish there were more to listen too.

The author of this podcast seems to have Mass hysteria himself. He criticizes some of the women for being adamant that this was not MH. But he remains adamant that it is MH. There was no research done about the other cases mentioned. For instance, the soldier that was in Moscow. You cannot hear...Read full review »

Reminds me of the Crucible told within a podcast format. Kind of reminds me of how trends move today on social media. My skepticism was on full alert. I wish I was as trustful as some people.

I really enjoyed this podcast! It approaches the story and cause of the girls' ticks from many perspectives and each one is interesting. Fast listen!Read full review »

Really interesting story with great background and history information. Dan was awesome and will definitely be looking for other podcasts by him!

Binged the whole thing on a road trip and found it fascinating. Well-researched and a lot to think about! I wanted more when it ended.

Dan Taberski is an incredible storyteller. The way it presents each episode, and the way of structuring each episode, left me every week waiting for the next chapter.

The beginning of the podcast quickly garners your attention. However, as a podcast progresses it becomes repetitive. I’m surprised I actually finished the podcast as I almost turned it off multiple times several episodes in. This could have been a single episode, not an entire series of repitition.

This is an excellent investigative podcast well told. Loved the host and his tongue in cheek narration. The topic is fascinating and well researched. There are no clear answers, and that’s what makes it so interesting.

Polished, good listen, but I’m still craving a deep dive into the heart of what mass hysteria actually is??

The mind is a strange thing. It’s what causes the attorney in episode 6 to not realize she got a breath of meth which is why she was clutching her chest & panicking etc.

I thought its never going to end. This podcast could be done in 3 episodes. The jokes are so dry its like the listener is walking through a desert. The story? Its all over the place and we are guessing here what happened - no closure. We are literaly geting walked throught the lake THIRSTY

I burned through this entire series in a day, it’s so good. The people he interviewed for this all make for an interesting podcast experience. However if you’re looking for a definitive answer at the end, you’ll be disappointed.

The story was interesting. It points out the glaring gap in US healthcare between physical, mental, and neurological health and how they must always be positioned against one another instead of a holistic approach to wellness. Unfortunately, the host didn’t catch this and missed an opportunity to...Read full review »

Excellent deep dive into this fascinating look at the mind-body connection and another reminder that we absolutely do not understand how most of the brain works. What an incredible story. I’ve listened to several other podcasts from Dan, and he is an incredible storyteller as well as a compassionate and talented interviewer. ‘Hysterical’ is fascinating and told with Dan’s signature wit.
sourseagrapes via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/11/24
I have to admit, I loved the style and story telling in this podcast. Very well put together and produced beautifully. I would have preferred the word hysteria be used more sparingly and primarily in the historical context because that word is so wildly misogynistic.
krysmartin89 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/11/24
Dismissing accidental drug overdose as hysteria is completely unhinged. Even if something isn’t an overdose, their episodes can be symptoms of an unknown illness and people coming on the news and dismissing their symptoms can be dangerous. Additionally, People have hypersensitivities to certain...Read full review »

I loved this show - and loved the narration above all. From Waldorf salads to vibrators to ‘that’s upstate baby’, it all tied together wonderfully. It could have just focused on LeRoy and Salem, but I found it especially compelling to discuss fentanyl and Havana syndrome on top of it all. This...Read full review »

Intrusive and frequent advertisements made this quite an unpleasant experience. Gave up after two episodes. Such is the way with podcasts these days

Still agree that you shouldn’t have given that un-poisoned prosecutor (your doctor tested you for everything except the one drug you were screaming about, or you were tested for it and it the levels were too low to detect? Loved this podcast! Conversion disorder is a very real thing. And what’s crazy is, when someone gets that diagnosis they are outraged rather than relieved which as a registered nurse always baffled me. The mind body connection is a very real thing. This was so well done.
Dumpster Muffin via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/09/24
This is good storytelling, but the conclusions and a lot of implications along the way are really unfortunate. I kept thinking of Incline Village in the 80s, and all the sick teachers who were also called hysterical and dismissed for decades. Now we know so much more about post viral illness, and...Read full review »

It was an interesting listen but I feel it really missed the mark on not mentioning the internet and social media even once in all seven episodes. Seems like a huge oversight that really takes away from the story.
Abdullah Michael via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/08/24
There is no resolution, why do a podcast about a Topic that was never resolved and everything was speculated ?? You probably shouldn’t make a podcast about a topic if you need filler episodes about faux fentanyl overdoses.

This is a pretty captivating show. Unfortunately, it is blind to its own subtle misogyny. The “h” word is used during every segment *except* when the segment focuses on men. Then it is noticeably absent. Given how sensitive the host purports to be to the “baggage” of they word, I was hoping for a...Read full review »

I’ve listened to all of Dan’s pods and every one of them is superbly researched, written and produced. I am almost done with Hysterical and again, he knocked it out of the park. Can’t wait to see what he does next.
