“This brought back happy memories of listening to the final session of each day for these test matches on a crackling radio first thing in the morning before trying to watch the highlights on TV that evening. I vividly remember watching Lamb score those 18 runs to win the one day match…what a...”Read full review »

“This is an amazing story from the people who these days are quite literally legends of the game. There will never be sports tours quite like that again! As much batting as boozing”

“The background music is annoying to the point where I couldn’t concentrate on what was being said. Subject matter is fantastic but I was underwhelmed by the whole thing and Pougatch is on a ego trip”

“Season 1 was such a fantastic series, I didn’t think they’d be able to top it! But what a great lineup, great tour, and great cast they’ve got for series 2! Bring on the ashes 86!”

“Enjoyable podcast relating the story of a memorable series. Felt the most interesting episodes were the ones with the camera crew and the last one about Doddy Weir - some genuine emotions on show there.
Ultimately though there’s an over-reliance on the same characters for a 10 part series. No...”Read full review »

“Anything about the 97 lions is worth a listen or look , this pod cast like the vhs video takes you there and brings back what for me was the best lions tour.”

“Great inside from a classic tour, would have given 5 stars if it wasn’t for the disproportionate amount of air time given to the highly irritating Austin Healy and his massive ego. The other contributors are far more interesting.”

“A fantastic insight into the best tour ever. The format of letting those who lived it tell the story is excellent. Could listen to these stories all day!”

“It’s as if five gormless students had been given a cheap audio special effects machine and a bottle of whiskey. Hideous disjointed crashes and bangs, echoes, vibrations, fade in and fade out; like a rubbish trailer for a B grade action movie.
At the same time, no adults had realised that...”Read full review »

“Great pod. 97 was the first of 6 Lions tours I’ve been on with an epic group of mates. This year’s was due to be our 7th..... 97 was the best holiday ever, we played wherever the team did and had many sessions with them too. Alistair - maybe you should do an episode in the supporters and our...”Read full review »

“So engaging to listen to. Loads of brilliant behind the scenes stories told by the stars of the tour themselves. Great to think back to 97, just as we head out on tour again.”

“As you would expect from Al Eykyn and producer Jonathan Overend, an excellent retelling of one of the great sporting tours of all time. Good to hear from some of the back- room characters as well as the players. Brings back happy memories of that extraordinary summer of ‘97. Looking forward to...”Read full review »

“Love Ali Eykyn and this is a great idea with all the right people involved - possibly a little over produced?? Will keep listening but that tour doesn’t need over-egging or souping up whether it be wildlife hyperbole or emotive sound design. Trust the stories, stakes and intensity of the material.”
