A great podcast to discover new music whilst dreaming with northern California traffic. James is a great interviewer and listener. -Pedro

Love the show. A tip for pronouncing Meilyr - it’s more like ‘may-lear’ but the r is a hard r. 🙌 thanks for all the good music recommendations James!

As an American, I realize I may be missing something about who this guy is, but I’m not really sure what’s going on. Was this guy a famous comedian who had an accident or something? He refers to having some kind of a breakdown but I don’t see anything online about it, other than bombing at some...Read full review »

Acaster bringing more quality humour and wit to our ears, and a great deep dive into his wide-ranging music interests and finds from the ‘breakdown period’ of his life. The guests always are so great too! Love this! Such a great podcast.

I like this podcast setup and it made me feel passionate about listening to music again and to discover what else it out there.

Every time I think I’ve got Acaster figured out, he goes and does something above and beyond. The regular interviews with celebs are great, but his interviews with musicians, music historians, etc are where you can actually appreciate how much Acaster has learned about music, music making and...Read full review »

This guy changed the way I have listened to music! The episodes are funny and the added info makes listening to the albums so enjoyable. 10/10 recommend.

This podcast is everything I love about James Acaster: absurd, entertaining and yet somehow informative.

This is a great podcast. Don't always love the music - and sometimes neither do the guests, which is perfect. The conversation surrounding each album is tender and thoghtful, so even for the challenging albums I'm left with insight and background I wouldn't have had otherwise. His...Read full review »

Love the podcast and recommend it to all my friends. I hope he does an episode of LP’s Lost on you.

I loved the book and was very excited to find the podcast. One of the best parts of my week is listening to the albums- some of my favorites were A Self Help Tragedy, AV, Worry, and Flood Network. It’s like a book club except Better!

I’m really enjoying listening to this whilst reading James’ book alongside it. The podcast makes me laugh every time but also lovely to hear about music I would never know about otherwise.

I just felt sad this only had one one star rating. 2016 was a great year for music (Last Shadow Puppets AND Pentatonix Christmas album!) and it deserves more appreciation than it has received so far. I am glad this podcast is out here to fight this fight

James’ long-held appreciation for music really shines through on this podcast, and it’s great to hear well thought-out commentaries by his guests, but the best episodes by far are the ones where James and a pleasantly surprised guest get blown away and gush about an obscure artist you’ve never...Read full review »

Great podcast - just what I needed to reignite my love for music 💛 This podcast is going to cost me a lot of money! 🙈 I’d like to make a 2016 music recommendation... Centerfold by Mothxr

I’m not a big music person - like, I don’t seek out new musicians to listen to and I can’t pretty much never identify why i like what i like. But listen to this podcast I’ve heard so many bands I never would have heard of and who I’m now excited to listen to. Can’t wait for the book to arrive!

This podcast has been an absolute god send. I was one of those that have abandoned new music. I live away from my music mates so this podcast fills a void with regard to that sort of chat. Great find.
AnnieCrampier via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/25/20
Don’t get me wrong, I love Acaster’s comedy like everyone else. But you can tell he cares deeply about music and enjoys talking about it with his interesting guests. Great podcast.

I love James and his guest are wonderfully game to try something new. But that last one sounded so much like Lisa Germano. Look her up.

I love James’ comedy but when I found out about the book, I was so excited. I love every second of it and was even more excited when I saw he’d turned this project into a podcast. I love hearing how passionate he is about music and learning about new stuff to listen to.

If you are a fan of James, he’s comedy and his Off Menu podcast this will not disappoint. More of his quick wit, easy story telling and chatting with guests in a style that you can imagine them chatting down the pub. The added bonus, if you’re a music lover, or simply open to discovering new...Read full review »

Great podcast. I’ve been listening to the podcast then listening to the album straight after. Discovered some gems and also learnt what I definitely don’t like. James’s energy and knowledge about each album is brilliant to listen to.

His comedy is hilarious and it’s nice to get to know another side of him. Best of all, you get to hear some great music and the stories behind them. I’m excited for the whole season.

James Acaster has turned a very difficult time in his life into a positive look at all kinds of music. His openness to all genres and very unique (sorry James’s dad) perspective is a welcome and uplifting distraction during these strange times. Thank you James!!!

Honestly James might be my favourite person that I’ve never met. I really recommend his book on the same topic too. It introduced me to the amazing Andy Shauf. I was first drawn to James for his comedy as I find him hilarious and love hearing about his classic scrapes!

I love James passion for music, his enthusiasm is infectious, I love the research into the background, however I’d listened to them all so far and enjoyed them all but he’d not convinced me 2016 was the ‘best’ year for music, none of the choices quite sold me until the Laura Mvula album, which I...Read full review »

I really love this podcast and the spectrum of music being featured! The brief context of the album that James provides is great and really situates the music in its political and social context. I loved James’s honesty around why he is so passionate about 2016 music. Being open about mental health and normalising it is an huge added bonus however the 98% of the podcast is about music. I think James is brilliant and even better than normal - super personal. There are some guests who are honest and interesting. My only problem is the sound levels are awful. The music and sound clips are louder than the vocal chat. It makes for difficult listening,
