Great guests, great chat, the usual wit and intelligence from Mark Kermode. It’s just a shame that Jack Howard is, well, Jack Howard (who tries to keep everyone amused by joking about age gaps while stumbling around like a Muppet Baby until he hits a talking point that can allow him to mention...Read full review »

This was a great podcast. Very different to wittertainment but just as great. So sad we’ve lost both to whatever the new Take subscription is.

Kermode is great, but I have to admit that I skip the Jack Howard episodes. I just find him a bit cocky and unpleasant. I much prefer Kermode’s partnership with Ellen E Jones on the other Kermode podcast!

A long term fan of marks and have no idea why the radio silence on the new mayo kermode show ?? Real shame

Even if his take is completely contrarian to my opinion I like how well-spoken & thoughtful Mark (& his co-host Jack) argues.

I am a big fan of jack howard and mark kermode and think they make a great team talking about film. They have different perspectives and viewpoints which makes for a great and very interesting discussion

I for one am a fan of Jack Howard and his POV so I have no complaints there but I preferred the podcast when it was less hour long MK3D épisodes split up over several weeks, it would be better to have more recent topical discussions instead of weeks prior pre recorded live shows IMHO.

I’m giving it 5 outta 5 because I avoid the episodes with J.H. Involved! If ya dont like dont listen.

Mark Kermode is a fantastic critic nothing more to be said , listen & enjoy. Jack Howard however is sadly way out of his depth and his knowledge is incredibly poor & Mark puts him in his place regularly………. Which makes for some cringeworthy podcast moments

I’ve been a big fan of Mark Kermode for many years; I don’t always agree with his conclusions or readings of a film, but I am always impressed with the sheer depth of his knowledge and infectious passion for film. I was very excited by the prospect of him doing a film podcast. However, I have...Read full review »

Who is this utter no-mark that Mark Kermode has brought on to talk total nonsense about films? What’s the point of him? Why would anyone want to listen to him? Can someone do something about this grave situation soon, please?
Me254up via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 02/04/22
Really interesting podcast but my one nitpick is I can’t get my head around starting a top ten of the year at number 5. Other than that it’s great!

Always looked forward to when a new episode of this would drop into my podcast feed. Particularly loved the interviews and audio walking talks. Now that’s regularly followed by disappointment when seeing the dreaded ‘…and Jack Howard’ Enough of the demographic chasing, it’s like pairing a...Read full review »

Jack is ignorant and watches very little. I am Not sure what the point of him is.

Again the ‘great Jack Howard‘...absolutely destroyed by MK...truly not up to it...

Not a fan of Mr. Kermode’s celebrity/movie-industry-people interviews, but I download every episode he does with Jack Howard. It’s always interesting and often humorous to hear their opinions on current and past films and filmmakers, considering their age differences. I always learn something...Read full review »

I love Kermode and I enjoy listening to him chatting to him listening to people who work inside the film industry - the sound of metal episode was very interesting to listen too as I understood sound design’s importance in a way that I hadn’t really before. However, I do find Jack Howard’s voice...Read full review »

I have to echo some of the other reviews regarding the “contribution” of Jack Howard to the show. I want to listen to an excellent, well-informed critic like Mark Kermode, not a TV ad director who apparently has seen less films than I have, and doesn’t even have particularly interesting opinions...Read full review »

Kermodes inability to listen to or consider others criticism, is really off-putting
Skygoooone via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 10/01/21
An extra dose of Kermode is never a bad thing, and the discussion here is just that little bit more relaxed and informal than would be demanded by BBC regulations for Kermode & Mayo. Lots of interesting and passionate discussions and a deep dive into the world of cinema through the good...Read full review »

This podcast would be a lot better if you got rid of jack howard what a tedious odious little man so progressive, I want to hear about the films not he’s political opinions
dreadtodance via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 09/06/21
The idea that Mark ranks his best and worst of the year in conversation with a younger critic makes perfect sense. Next time, please choose someone who actually watched films and selected things he disliked, rather than TV - ?!- that merely ‘disappointed’ him.
piearmy via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 09/03/21
Love the show, love the topics, love Mark and Jack, but please drop the sound from the trailers. Its really loud, its disturbing and breaks the flow of the conversation. Listenening to a movie trailer doesn’t make any sense, its really annoying. Just cut them out.

While it may seem unfair to give a podcast one star based on one episode it’s just what the dull Jack Howard did in putting Mare of Eastown in the worst category after watching two episodes. I don’t know if he was thinking I will omit all the banal rubbish that’s been on tv in the first six...Read full review »

Just when you think Jack Howard can’t get any worse, he lists both Mare of Easttown and Time on his worst of the year list, whilst including Loki and Wandavision on his best of, and explains to Marc that Time was written by an old guy called Jimmy McGovern, aswell as only watching the first 2...Read full review »

This week’s episode (17 August) was finally the nail in the coffin for me as a listener. Mark is an excellent critic and film commentator whose wide breadth and depth of knowledge of film is impressive and entertaining to listen to. The issue, however, is with Jack Howard’s contributions. Jack...Read full review »

Jack is obviously too busy to review films and tv properly, which is fine. It just means that I am too busy to listen to his opinions. More Mark, less Jack please

If you ever want an honest reviewer Kermode is the best one in my opinion. I love listening to this podcast and highly recommend if you are a film fan.

The podcast where Mark tells us all that we are Nazis if we don’t hate Trump more than him and then maybe talks about films. Used to be an OK podcast. Not anymore.
Aziz the bull bulls via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 06/15/21
Simon Mayo does not let him get away with it and thus MK is at his best. Unleashed, his favourite words are I and me and favourite topic, talking about himself and it is boring. Such a a shame because he can be so much more interesting and his reviews, when focused, are excellent.

I've always been a massive fan of Mark's writing and reviews. He's extremely well read and couches his views in a well rounded historical context within cinema and tangential media. Jack Howard on the other hand.....every time he speaks it's generally poorly thought out and...Read full review »

I don’t know if I would go for a job interview having done no research so it was quite frustrating listening to an hour-long podcast of Jack just winging it having watched about 20% of the nominations. Kermode brings literary quality while Jack Howard supplements with YouTube charisma. There is a clear generational divide here when the latter claims Martin Scorsese’s The Departed is his best film. I have always loved Mark Kermode - I am starting to fast forward through these podcasts. If I want politics I can go elsewhere to find a more balanced and reasoned approach.
