This show is very well done. Thanks, dear hosts, for understanding what your audience (or at least I) need and want in an educational/practical podcast like this. A++ Much appreciated!!

I like this podcast and have learned a great deal. But the episodes often take a long time to get going, with lots of chatter about things that aren’t connected to the episode theme. But great overall.

If you’re searching for a podcast to learn about music theory - you’ve come to the right place! Music Student 101 features two congenial hosts who teach us listeners a lesson in a different aspect of music theory in each episode. There are many “aspects” and, correspondingly, many episodes - and,...Read full review »

I dip in and out. They go off on too many conversational tangents. I have listened to some longer sessions and waited far too long in between useful musical theory points. Set yourself a maximum duration (30-40 minutes?) and cover the ground without orthogonal discussion. I am not asking for...Read full review »

If you’re looking to expand your music theory and want to hangout with 2 cool cats while you do it; this podcast is for you. Musical concepts are already getting easier and I can see progress in my knowledge :) Plus I haven’t even caught up yet! Thanks Matt and Jeremy for everything you’ve done.

I just discovered this show, and I’m starting from the beginning because I want to learn. I like how the show is structured and how the hosts make very complex information approachable. It is very academic but not dry and lecture like. I still would not survive if I had to rely on my circle of...Read full review »

I’ve mostly been listening on Spotify but I came over to iTunes to rate it here as well. Y’all’s podcast has really helped me enjoy my day more as I have an hour drive to work and also work in the back of a store. Y’all are a joy to listen to and explain things very well. Not a student, not someone comfortable with much music, but exploring, rather late, whether I can please myself with learning the Ukelele. I LOVE getting my head around music theory. It’s the key to my making sense of what can sound to me like disturbing sounds, too much going on. So this,...Read full review »

The pace it goes covers the absolute bare bones basics in the early episodes, all the way into thicket, where later covering some really in depth down the “chipmunk” hole kind of topics as our hosts make refenerence to, many being college and university level subjects discussed. Misquoting the opening of Beethoven’s Fifth, and very egregiously? And trouble finding the notes by ear to the opening of Haydn’s “Surorise Shmphony?” And you are TEACHING music? At least do your own homework. Nothing wrong with your ideas.
