This is the first of Lowell's podcast novels. He grabbed me right away with Ishmael, an 18-year-old young man whose mother, a university professor is killed. Thus begins quite an adventure that includes some interesting characters and and a demonstration of Ish's work ethic and desire to learn. This reminded me of Starship Troopers (the book, not the movie) without the military or political themes. The story of comraderie and freindship was enjoyable, and the characters were likable enough. This was a fun listen, but the series devolves from here.

Highly recommend these books which remind me of some classic Heinlein. Science Fiction fans can't go wrong here and others will find a rich and imaginative character driven story.Read full review »

I was pleasantly surprised by this. It really isn’t a bad book.
