Dave, Chris and Issac.
I work for an airline at the airport, restaurant stories are quite relatable. Also, although Causian my immigrant parents were born in Nazi Germany/Austria. They came with the Scarlet A ( Axis) on themselves as well as us. Instead of Kimchi, I had sauerkraut. However although my skin colour got me through the door, my heritage and mentality never fit in with suburban Canada. Taking full advantage of travel privileges I spend much time with my relatives in Europe and now understand the mindset of my parents. I like you Dave have a complicated relationship with my hard headed mother. She even looks like Angela Merkel however different temperament. A fiery workhorse that recently broke her ribs at 85 years old and took three days of my father’s and my patience to drive her to a hospital that did not have a Covid19 outbreak early on a Sunday morning.
When in Toronto, stop by I have an 1800’s recipe for Linzer Torte. Once my mom made it, I flew to Linz ( my father’s hometown) and brought it to my brother who was studying at the time. Bringing Linzer Torte to Linz. I died of embarrassment. But the torte is the best around. Tricks.. use only egg yolks for the crust so it won’t dry out. And the jam, mix raspberry and red current together.
Cheers
Andrea”
