“Chernobyl is a show based on real events. This podcast follows that model, it’s drama. The show and podcast certainly depict the political faults of the Soviet Union is stark and accurate detail. Unfortunately, it’s let down by an obvious lack of any scientific reality when it comes to radiation and radioactive material. It plays of fear of radiation without any reference to actual radiation effects, run away is the message disconnected from reality.
A great example is when the podcast claims that a measurement of 3.6 Roentgen per hour is “strangely specific”. This is a bizarre claim to make - all scientific measurements should be specific. It is unremarkable, and far from strange, that a radiation dose rate measurement is specific.
It’s entertaining, it’s an education in a failed political system; but this is far from a science class on radiation physics.”
