I am a 72 year old, who lives in Iowa and doesn’t climb, but this is my favorite podcast. I have listened to most, if not all, of the episodes. The last episode #276 was so good it it motivated this 5 star review.

As only an infrequent rock climber and mountaineer, I just discovered Chris’ podcast, but it is a excellent. While his experience and personal knowledge of many of the climbs and ascents gives him a groundwork for the interviews, the relaxed format, rapport with the guests, and probing questions...Read full review »

I’m new to this podcast and listened to a few during a long road trip. I enjoyed them and learned from them. Chris did a great job interviewing the esteemed climbers and leading them into conversations which gave me insights into who they were as people and what was important to them and what...Read full review »

What else can you say but the Enormocast is THE preeminent climbing podcast. Absolute classic with all the big names and plenty youve never heard of. Kalous just keeps doing it. Always gets me stoked to go climbing!

Doing long form interviews is hard, doing them well, even harder and delivering something interesting? Most hard. Chris Kalous has been pulling that off for a long time and in the process, introducing us to a lot of interesting people who do more than climb, capturing the oral history of...Read full review »

THE climbing podcast that dives into the soul of the sport with interviews of both climbing legands and campfire heroes. Story telling is the heart of human history and Kalous has his finger on the pulse with each and every interview.

How can anyone listen to this without wanting to listen to more or fall in Love with Chris, his voice , lack of hair and those he interviews. I’m writing this review and rating it with one star to capture the attention of those looking for something bad to be said about the podcast. Well, guess...Read full review »

i went trough the whole archive many times, Chris manages to teach us climbing history trough laidback conversation with the legendary guests, get ready to daydream about buying a sprinter van and go climbing forever. One of the best podcast around (and not just in the climbing genre), great host...Read full review »

Chris has a variety of guests and asks intriguing questions, makes unfiltered jokes (although sometimes borderline insensitive haha) and just talks about life. This podcast is a great listen for climbers of all levels and even my non climbing friends find his episodes a good listen.

Chris brings on a variety of guests from different climbing eras, disciplines, and backgrounds. I always appreciate the usually easy, conversational interviews, as well as the occasional trip into difficult/sober territory. This podcast is about climbing, but it’s also about a lot more than...Read full review »

Thanks Chris for providing a platform for long form content about climbing. What makes this podcast stand out from most of the other climbing podcasts is that Chris has a lifetime of experience in the climbing world that enables him to contribute to the discussions and adds a level of depth that...Read full review »

Every guest that has something interesting is invariably interrupted with the host’s opinion, similar experiences (or lack thereof), and/or change of subject. Some truly incredible guests are forced to listen to the same stories, explanations and opinions that have been recounted dozens of times....Read full review »

Can’t say enough about The Enormocast. I think one of my favorite parts of driving to the next crag in my rig over the last 4+ years is queuing up enough episodes to get me through the drive, no matter the length. It always gets the stoke to 100. I have to say, the Scott Franklin epidode is a...Read full review »

Might as well be the name of the show. Chris frequently overtalks his much more accomplished and interesting and HUMBLE guests. An especially cringey moment that showcased his overweaning ego occurred during the Janja Garnbret episode introduced Janja, saying that he was able to control his...Read full review »

I play this game where I jump to any section of any episode and knock back a shot if the guest is actually speaking. I have been sober for over 10 years.

I’ve tried several times to give this podcast another chance and it consistently falls flat. If you want to listen to a lot of out if touch ranting centered entirely on The Creek and The Valley- this one’s for you. The TAPS episode this year was so bad I had to just turn it off. Read the room....Read full review »

I really enjoy these episodes!! Chris is a great interviewer and he makes his guests the stars of the show. Loved Jay Smith interview (no ego there). Love anything with John Long. Past couple of months The Enormocast has become my umbilical cord to the climbing community, culture and history. I’ve listened to so many of these podcasts, how can someone who interviews people for a living be so bad at it! He spends so much time taking about himself ! Just ask the questions ! The guests are supper interesting, if Kalous could just get out of his own way this would be a great podcast !

This is a sometimes decent podcast if the guest carries the interview, and there aren’t too many interruptions from the host. Ugh
I’ve listened to this podcast on and off for years, mostly because I want to hear from his guests but I’m finally quitting for reals. When I first started it seemed everyone was a sandbagging curmudgeon. Thanks to a new influx of sharing and inclusiveness we can all come to understand our community and climb harder too. One of my climbing buddies and mentors introduced me to this podcast. This is what we listen to on our way to and from the crags. Dr. Kalous is surely one of the best opinionists of our time. For there is no road he shies from traveling, no path he does not plod, no track he does not trek, and no stupendous enormo-dome too stuperfluous to scale. Dr. Kalous is no scaredy cat. This went straight to the heart. The Enormocast humanizes the heroic and mythologizes the everyday pleasures of roping up. It also helped me kick a pretty shameful daisy chain habit. Thoughtful, hilarious and inspiring.
