Very Glad
So very glad to find this pod cast. I really wanted more after the History of Rome. Byzantium's place in history is over looked. Historians have a tendency to move directly to Medieval Europe and neglect the importance of Byzantium in keeping Hellenistic ideas alive; which helped foster the Renaissance. I don't think Charles Martel's victory at Tours-Poitiers in 732 would have meant much if the Muslims could have moved west from Asia Minor. Also Byzantium blocked the Muslims from moving in to Italy from Sicily; which both Sicily and Italy were taken from the Muslims and Byzantium by the Normans in the 11th century. Europe would be an entirely different place without Byzantium and I am looking forward to learning more. So far I have heard the first two episodes and have enjoyed both.Read full review »
