Questionable, risky, and sometimes incorrect
Having listened to nearly 20 episodes, it's time for a review. My foremost objections are its sourcing. Father De Young's wild assertions whose only source or citation seems to be, "Trust me, bro." Well and good, but it's hard to trust someone who semi-regularly says the Bible says thus and so when it most certainly does NOT. Yes, I own the Orthodox Study Bible; he's either misremembered, mistaken, or is just wrong. Bad form. There is also a **lot** of cherry-picking from the Pseudepigrapha and rabbinic legends to support their ideas while ignoring numerous contradictory sections. I'm trying to give grace, but it seems a little dishonest to me. The pop culture references, "giggles," and overall tomfoolery can be annoying, but it **is** a podcast, and they are minor compared to the grievous points mentioned above. The occasional incredible gems (three or four so far) keep me listening. Sadly, I would not recommend to anyone that didn't already have a very firm grasp of ANE thought and Second Temple literature--basically, people who would already know the podcast's content. I've found too many errors to take this with any more than a grain of salt and I really expected a couple priests to have a better grasp of sacred scripture.Read full review »

Time is never wasted when considering the things from above! Highly recommend for those wanting to deep-dive into the complexity and beauty of the Scriptures and our Christian faith.

This podcast digs deep into scripture and pulls out the weird and the strange. I love the dad jokes too.

I may be a filthy Protestant (:-P), but I love this podcast. It opens my eyes to things we Protestants have largely ignored for the last 500 years, and frankly I think it would do is some good to re-open our eyes. Thanks to the good priests for bringing this podcast.
