This might be the worst fiction podcast I’ve ever listened to. There’s a hint of an overall story, and episode 8 supposedly ties it together. Instead it’s a waste of dead ends and wasted time. The “true crime” segments are ok, but way over produced, and we don’t need to hear every line repeated....Read full review »

I don't want to call this terrible because I think it could be worse and I think it has a decent premise but the writing for the dialogue and acting is so bad it just reminds you the entire time that it not the true story it is trying to seem like.Read full review »

This was great and if it was real let’s be thankful that it was solved… why do we want unsolved cases I rather know it that it can be done but this was a great story though high school to adult hood keep it going!!

Are you interested in a series of murders over decades that don’t have anything in common or a story that connects them all together? Then buckle yourself in for hours of wasted listening with this series. Each episode is marginally interesting but the series horribly fails to deliver on promise.

Really wanted to like this but it’s more ads than actual podcast.
km0989 via Apple Podcasts · Canada · 11/04/23
I was intrigued by this story, as it seemed to imply that the separate series of murders would all be tied together somehow. Spoiler: they weren’t. The closest the show came to tying everything together was falling back on that tired, racist trope of “well the town is built on a Native American...Read full review »

A complete waste of time. Not interesting. Doesn’t wrap up in any meaningful way. A lot of bad acting. Even the timeline doesn’t make sense. I gave it 2 stars because the sound design is good and I foolishly listened to the whole thing thinking it would have a good ending. So they got me there.

You know what I WOULD love to hear? The true events that this podcast was supposedly based on. While each individual story was interesting, it just seems like a tragedy shock rag with no overarching story line. I pushed through all the unrealistic plot lines and verbatim repeated phrases to see...Read full review »

Really interesting and well done! Really professional sound and writing.

I’m quite enjoying this audio drama, yeah it might be a little overacted at some times, but the story is interesting. But the ads, omg the ads. The same ads are played about 4 times an episode, and it’s not like one or two, it’s at least 2-3 minutes. So 2 mins of ads 4 times an episode…that’s 8...Read full review »

I’ve never written a podcast review before, but it felt important to warn others who may be seeking a true crime podcast! First and foremost, this is not a true crime podcast. It is fictional and acted. They claim that everything is made up to protect people, but it’s basically just an...Read full review »

I heard this podcast’s trailer for the tenth time. In that moment … I saw rage.

1. Not a true crime podcast 2. “Based” on real events. But it’s stories. 3. The actors are terrible. Who talks like that?? The answer is - no one! I’ve listened to real true crime with real people and they sound normal. This is the most ridiculous show I’ve tried in years. Don’t waste your time.

The podcast descriptions imply an overarching story of some sort, but so far it’s just a lot of random murders that are solved immediately. There is no sense of suspense or mystery or connection that something connects these murders or of an overarching explanation for why the town experienced...Read full review »

I just can’t. I unsubscribed after episode 4. I’d rather have the whole real story rather than a fictionalization. It’s just boring & fake sounding.

I haven‘t listened to this but the ads for this in other Wondery shows are so obtrusive and annoying, they literally make me rush to my phone to hit the skip button! Stop shoving this down my throat already! I might have actually given this a listen based on the description but due to the endless...Read full review »

It’s like everyone on this show has never heard how a person talks. The writing is cringeworthy and the narrator often repeats what someone just said or vice versa.

As others have pointed out, this is NOT a true crime podcast but a radio drama in the style of true crime. If you go into it expecting true crime, you’ll be disappointed. I have some minor complaints - some of the voice actors aren’t as good as others, and, yes, there are a lot of ads - but it’s...Read full review »

The writing is pandering so hard. It could have been good if not for the totally ridiculous random product placements in the dialogue, ads every minute, and god what else…skip this. They blew the budget on ad placements in some actual good podcasts. It’s so bad. All five minutes you hear each...Read full review »

Really terrible acting. Also it seems foolish to be advertising this on true crime podcasts. I think most of us listening are into true crime and I don’t know why that would suggest we’d want to listen to bad audio fiction. Obviously there is an audience for fictional podcasts, but I hope these...Read full review »

I agree, it has too many ads (and I feel like I Heart Radio has the most annoying ads in general) and the voice acting is often overacted but for a 30 minute fiction show I’m enjoying it. I’m curious to know if they will find a way to connect the different stories or if they just think the town...Read full review »

I think the bad reviews are just owed to the show being mis categorized as true crime. It’s not, it’s fiction and it’s def worth more than 3 stars. And why ppl complain about ad’s for something free as if their fingers don’t work and you can’t just skip them. Ads have nothing to do w the quality...Read full review »

Ads
For some reason this is categorized as “true” crime, but it’s fiction, there are way way way too many ads and sometimes played over and over again.

I’m not one to usually leave reviews, but I feel like I need to after reading some of the reviews other people left for this podcast. For starters, this is a work of fiction. If you are going to go in to this dissecting every bit of crime detail like a true crime junkie that most of us are, and...Read full review »

I agree with you Shredder203 - as soon as she said this is a true story of murders that happened, but in a small town that she can’t say the name of nor the people involved, so us listeners have no way to verify the story, I knew it wasn’t real. Then the fake 911 calls and “Lisa” talking but...Read full review »

Ok, I kept hearing ads for this and decided to check it out. They play the same four ads on this show four times, I think? I thought it was a real story, but then discovered it was fiction. Which could be cool, but I’m not trying to listen to the same ads over and over for 15mins of a fake story....Read full review »

This story is supposed to take place in 1984, but at the end of episode 1, they say they found they found the victim’s blood in the killer’s car — but wait — how? DNA evidence wasn’t around until 1986 — and it didn’t become a common police tool until the late 80s and early 90’s! She mentions...Read full review »

Listening to 15 minutes of ads when the episode is only 30 minutes long….the podcast was okay at best. Definitely not worth having to deal with an insane amount of ads.
Sterry3 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 09/02/23
It’s a bit hard to get into the stories as there are just so many ads - about 10-12 mins of the 45min episodes are adverts. The narrated stories themselves are okay (two episodes out so far, have listened to both), not a presentation style I’ve heard before often, but due to ads won’t be...Read full review »
