Susan cannot believe that Julian is still alive. He wants her to help them to get into the city but Susan says she will not. The rats tell her some things and she tries to get the whole story from them but when Julian gets them to bring in their other captive Susan knows she might not be able to refuse them anymore.

Susan tripped on the stairs as she tried to get away from the rats and blacked out. When she wakes up, she thinks she is in a dream and reaches for her blankets, only to realize she is not dreaming. The squeaks and squeals are real, and there are rats all around her. What is going to happen to her now?

Susan has been taken by the rats, and Tucker has been placed in his room after his meeting with the Council. Tucker's mom finally comes and says she will let him out but tells him he won’t be on gate duty anymore. Tucker pretends to agree with her and says okay and then races to the gate to see Susan before he can no longer go through.

After hearing her mom talk about an exterminator, Susan decided to go down to the basement to look for herself to see what her mom was talking about. Once she got down there, she saw the rats and turned to run but her sock caught and the door was locked. Tucker cannot believe he is trapped in his room again. He keeps checking the door, but every time, it is locked. When his mom finally comes and opens the door, he cannot believe what she says to him.

Susan is trying to be brave and forget about the rats. After Tucker visited and she told him about her dreams she is certain that if something was wrong he would have told her. When her mom mentions needing an exterminator Susan decides it is time to check things out for herself and see what is going on.

Tucker is not having much luck trying to convince the council about what is happening with Susan, and his mom has requested that he be taken off of guard duty and his ties with the family above be cut. Susan, not knowing about any of this, wakes up to see sunlight and thinks about how much more this place feels like home.

After seeing Susan and returning to Cat City Tucker is determined to warn the council that something is still happening. He and Vinnie walk together to tell the members what he has learned before it is too late, but are they going to listen this time?

Tucker has seen Susan and heard all about her dreams. He is not sure what they mean but knows he needs to talk to the Council about it. When he returns to the city he tells Vinnie what Susan told him and they worry that it is Magic which Susan shouldn’t be able to feel outside of the city.

Susan is struggling to sleep and often has bad dreams, but she can’t tell her parents because it would only worry them more. She has reached out to Tucker, the butterscotch tabby, but hasn’t heard back about his whereabouts or when he might return. When she hears a noise in the hall, she closes her eyes and hopes for the best.

In "The Rat King - Chapter 1," Susan is back and at home, wondering where Tucker is. She’s having trouble sleeping and can’t explain to her parents why she’s having bad dreams. Susan only sleeps well when Tucker is around, but he hasn't been around much lately.
