Is there something wrong with the woman journalist? Her voice is terrible to listen to. Ugh!

Well researched and compelling podcast. The despicable history of child sexual abuse by institutions in Australia (including some of the individual abusers) is well told and something people should know about so that it doesn’t happen again. I don’t agree with the criticism of Melissa Davey, I...Read full review »

But great factual podcast and speakers. Thank you.

Many, many thanks for this. I worked for years in the legal system with women and children who experienced sexual violence, and the royal commission and Pell’s trial have been very close to my heart. I feel devastated by the acquittal and I feel deep gratitude to the journalists who reported on...Read full review »

I can’t recommend this series enough Marr and Davey are careful, thoughtful, considerate but enormously intelligent in their comment. An excellent production.

Ms
Excellent, I really enjoyed every second of it.

Despite the heavy subject matter, this is one of my favourite podcasts I’ve ever listened to. Melissa, I loved your thoughtful analysis, you’re a fantastic journalist. Together with David you make an unbeatable team. Please do a new episode when Pell gets to the High Court! And honestly do...Read full review »

This podcast provides good analysis of the trials and is thoughtful and well-researched. I think much of the material is also published as articles by Melissa Davey and/or David Marr, but the podcast provides a different format for listening to that information. It is especially useful in...Read full review »

David Marr is a superb journalist....best in Australia. Deserves to be more widely known.

Felt compelled to write a review after the most recent (August 2019) episode following Pell's appeal decision. While today there is a no shortage of media organisations and commentators trying to add their 15 minutes of "insight" to this issue, the contrast between the quality of...Read full review »

This is an absolutely brilliant piece of journalism about a mind-boggling subject. A superb piece of production, too.

David was great but the way the girl speaks (odd pauses and expression ) gave me a headache and her voice is really difficult to listen to. She sounds like she’s giving a high school presentation.

David Marr is clearly in love with the sound of his own voice. This is 2019. Try sounding like a real person. You're an anachronism. Couple that with the adolescent interpretation of complex social issues of the young woman sidekick, the presentation is constantly annoying.Read full review »

What an amazing piece of thought provoking riveting & balanced piece of journalism that draws you from the moment you hear Mr Marr’s voice. Each episode stays with me for days

Extraordinary podcast. Gut- renching. Sad. Pell‘ s rise in the church was partly based on his financial acumen. The extent to which people chose to ignore what was taking place - inside the church and outside. ‘Suffer the little children’ is in the scripture - it wasn’t supposed to be assisted by...Read full review »

David Marr is an excellent writer and public speaker. I would have given this 5 stars except that on listening to this wonderful podcast, one might think that girls have never suffered. As an ex-catholic, whose uncle was a priest and friend of the Bishop of Ballarat, and whose Aunt was a nun in a...Read full review »

This podcast is something that I think many people should listen too. It had me in tears hearing the stories about child abuse.

This is a really great podcast. David Marr is a great narrator and his voice and delivery is spot on. The editing is great and the primary source material is used beautifully. All Australians should listen to it as a point of social and cultural awareness and everyone else should listen simply...Read full review »

Hard to listen to at times but well worth it. Thank you for sharing their stories.

This should be required listening, a high standard of journalism. The details of how the church continues to behave is appalling. David Marr is so easy to listen to makes a difficult complex subject understandable.

You need to hear this - but if it raises issues there is support information at the end, so be sure to go to that bit if you need. Incredibly well done and pulls no punches on either the perpetrators of child sexual abuse in Australian institutions or those who covered it up.

Thank you David. Thank you thank you thank you. My case file went up against the royal commission. I hadn't said anything yet. I'm not in the middle of a lengthy court case to get justice and I'll always regret that I didn't contact the royal commission before it was too late....Read full review »
