“I love Spelunky, so I pounced on it as soon as I heard about it, and it certainly provides everything you'd want in a podcast about the greatest video game of all time. However, it's very quickly become a much broader beast - and is essentially a video game design podcast. What's really nice about it is it feels rich and thoughtful and authentic - as the hosts are all game designers themselves - without feeling dense or incomprehensible for game fans like myself, and what little jargon there is will always be unpacked and made accesible for anyone. Along with this, they've had some great guests already, standouts for me so far include the teams behind Into The Breach, Brogue and of course, Spelunky creator/god Derek Yu himself, because the podcast is always more than willing to check back in with the game thagt kicked the whole thing off. Check out the Game Of The Year 2018 episode for the most unusual selection you could ever imagine, too. It's so exciting to be listening in the run up to the release of Spelunky 2 this year (but when? when?!?!?). A wonderful, literate podcast full of facinating stories of creation and experimentation, the kind which games often live or die by, but are often given short shrift in the world of AAA, frame rate counts and corporate bombast.”Read full review »
