Thank you so much for making this podcast. Over the past weeks and months I have been delightfully emersed in your storytelling, travelling the Steppes of Central Asia with the pre-Islamic Turkish tribes, to Manzikert with Alp Arslan the Brave Lion and finally seeing off the last of the Crusader...Read full review »

This podcast provides an excellent overview of the history of the Turkish people. I’m particularly enjoying the chapters dealing with pre-Ottoman history, which is often not well known or covered. I wonder when the next episode will pop up. It’s been more than 3 weeks since the last one.

I kept listening to the podcast until the episode on Seljuks: Culture. The host examines history from biased Arabian or Persian perspectives rather than from an impartial and objective standpoint. He just reads, references old books about the Turks. A true historical perspective requires reading...Read full review »

Listening to this podcast has motivated me to learn all the geographic data so that I can follow up better in my mind. I would kind of like a map that was in motion to see things with the modern day places super imposed over it. My only complaint is we still have a long ways to go before we get...Read full review »

This podcast does an amazing job of taking what is, let’s face, quite an obscure and niche subject, and collates the information that exists and presents it in an engaging way. The narrative is spot on and the level of detail and analysis of sources is a delight. This is the podcast I’ve been...Read full review »

Possibly the most in depth and informative podcast about Turkic history I’ve ever heard, and I find the Seljuq period to be incredibly fascinating. A huge thank you for the effort you put into this podcast!

After listening to more than 20 episodes of this podcast, I can hardly wait for the next one! The author is well-spoken and quite knowledgeable, the writing is superb and the battle scenes, especially, are riveting. I would pay to get transcripts or source lists and would like to know more about...Read full review »

Serious depth here. We’re not even into Anatolia until episode23+. Lots of lessons be gleaned which range from animal grazing to the feigned retreat to the slave army to being cooked (according to the Chinese). A passionate amount of effort in synthesis of events that happened a long long ...Read full review »

I recently discovered this podcast and love it. I appreciate that it’s covered the Gokturk khaganate and is working it’s way through. Look forward to episodes covering Seljuk and his dynasty and working its way to Osman.

This podcast has my highest recommendation for any person with an interest in history. The podcaster (a mystery man so humble we do not get his name) is a master storyteller. He starts us out at the very beginning, in the central and east asian steppes, when the Turks were just a minor nomadic...Read full review »
