Genuinely interesting stories from history. I’m truly amazed that some of this was not part of the curriculum that I had, especially considering some of the things I was taught. Perfect length for short bits of time you may need to make things more interesting. And if I listen while in bed no...Read full review »

Anyone who doesn’t want the vaccine, that’s having a lot of long term negative side effects in people by the way, is a science denier. Never mind that the same people throwing these accusations around deny the science on 1. Where Covid originated 2. Masks on kids 3. Masks on planes 4. Masks...Read full review »

As a history buff, nothing is more annoying than coming across the hopeful prospects of a new and interestingHistory podcast only to find that said podcast is nothing but political bias with historical reference. I could care less wether or not the host sits on the right or left or on the dang...Read full review »

I had to unsubscribe based on the hosts personal opinions. I find that most history podcasts are better when the hosts spend more time on history and less on personal political opinions.

Relatively interesting content but host spends too much time being a bit preachy with his opinions and personal thoughts about the content or the people in the content. In a word, just present the facts, that's it. If you want to pontificate about the facts this is not the format. Just the...Read full review »

Joe has an infinitely wide curiosity, a rigorously maintained innocence, and presentation somehow compelling yet genial. Warning: totally addictive audio

Zeer onderhoudende podcasts over geschiedenis.

Every element of this podcast is amazing. The content that Joe chooses, the story in which it’s told, the length of each episode, and the host himself. The length of episodes are great—not any extra “fat” that lots of other podcasts could do without. Joe let’s listeners know exactly what they...Read full review »

You never know where this show will go next, but it’s always fascinating! The mini series on Italian facism, North Korea, and the No Nothings have been particularly interesting. I look forward to the rest of the War of 1812 episodes.

This guy must do a tonne of research. I like his diction and the topics he chooses are pretty fascinating. Keep up the good work, Streckert!

Nice to see really great research done and presented in such that makes history interesting and accessible.

At its best, the show can be witty and informative on a wide range of subjects. Unfortunately, the narrator often feels the need to inject his own liberal ideology, which detracts not only from the historical analysis but also takes away from the enjoyment of what the podcast should be-history...Read full review »

The North Korean episodes are SUPERLATIVE and should be required listening.

BUT, Not for the Most obvious reasons ...like narration from a voice identical to that of a rebounding Afrin Addict fresh-out of nose spray (nasally voice)...OR for having the personality of a self-important, smug comic-book store employee in his early 30’s... I was mostly disappointed...Read full review »

I came because Jamie Jeffers was on a special episode on the dating of Easter, but I stayed and listened to all of the other episodes because he is really interesting. It is well researched and his tone is light. Great job!

I love these insightful history lessens, though they don’t feel like lessons, but more like telling various stories of humankind in a quick but deep way. Spiced up with the narrators own thoughts and intelligent interpretations, i do really enjoy listening to this podcast. Keep up the good work!...Read full review »

Astounded at the effort that Joe puts into telling tall tales in an interesting way. He does it weekly, too. Occasionally, not often enough, he gets into a big subject and produces a fascinating series on it. Check out the Italian fascism and the North Korea episodes. I learn something new with every episode. He gets into some very interesting detail that you'd never come across in casual research. It is all worked into about 20 minutes, so it's a nice length if you don't want to devote a big chunk of time to listening at any one time.Read full review »

I started listening to this podcast within the past few months, and I'm a big fan. Interesting times or the Weird History podcast (depending on how current you are), is a great listen. Joe Streckert covers a wide range of historical topics and keeps it fun and interseting all while you learn something new. My favorite new podcast to binge listen to while I drive.

Joe Streckert has a very casual, comfortable demeanor and delivery. He seems to know everything (I bet he rocks at trivia) but does not have an ounce of pedantry in him. The podcasts are short and so don't require a huge time investment.Read full review »
