Monotone
I'm from fairly near where this is supposed to take place so I was really intrigued and excited when I found this. I even worked in an Alabama State Mental Hospital during the 80s. This is a story I *want* to love. But, I can not get interested in *what* is being said for being distracted by the obviously monotonous reading of the script by everyone in the cast to include the main character/narrator. They read on air as though this is their first time ever seeing the script. The emphasis, the few times there is one, is on the wrong word for the emotional intent of the scene to make sense. As I said, I really *want* to love this. I listened to the first 4 episodes hoping it would get better. But I can't get past the script reading with no sense that they are processing the content. Just words. Just words on a page read with less inflection than you'd expect from listening to someone read the phone book. Even when the narrator told us his life was being threatened, there was no emotion so it was completely unbelievable. I'm very sorry to say that I'm moving on. And I'm very sad about that.Read full review »
