Atherosclerosis, a fancy name for the clogging of arteries. Whether it be fats, cholesterol or even nicotine, these blockages can lead to a heart attack. Dr. Splaver warns that symptoms don’t usually occur until an artery is at least 70% blocked. Atherosclerosis can be slowed or stopped but is much harder to reverse. If you have risk factors for coronary disease Dr. Splaver suggests a non-invasive imaging test to stay on top of the issue.

Dr. Splaver often gets asked by patients about the benefits of a fish oil supplement, so today that’s what we’re discussing. Fish oil is an omega-3 fatty acid that most people first hear of in regards to helping their metabolism, giving them more energy, but at its core, fish oil helps maintain cell membranes. Adam explains why a healthy cell membrane is so important to our health and wellbeing but warns that not all brands of fish oil are created equal.

Adam shares his experience on an intense, 5-day ‘extended fast’ and how it helped to reset his metabolism and boost his immune system. More common is the practice of ‘intermittent fasting’, which Adam calls more of an eating strategy than a diet. Fasting can be beneficial in the context of health and wellness but always consult your physician first.
