Such a great podcast! I just wish that you would have supported Jane a little bit more support. I feel like she needed to hear that none of this was her fault so I’m saying that to her here! Jane was a child whom had gone through trauma before meeting this grown man, who took advantage of her...Read full review »

Interesting listen but there really wasn’t a need for it to be dragged out into this many episodes that were that long.

Excellent podcast but I must say I don’t feel sorry for all his victims…..for those who were tax avoiders, karma got you!!

I was worried this would be another “let’s drag this out to several episodes” series, but it really isn’t! Every episode covers yet more new ground and loved how much was covered. Shows the magnitude of the impact Hamish had. Certainly one of my new favourite podcasts.

My heart aches for Jane. She was a CHILD. He groomed her and he is at fault for all of it. She was not able to discern the dangerousness of this man and she was in no way complicit. My heart aches for the blame she feels. She was A CHILD! Excellent podcast.

Excellent podcast - well researched, thoughtful, and very interesting. Absolutely mind blowing to discover there are men like Hamish in the world! I hope the podcast helps to put an end to his appalling behaviour.

Compelling story. Extremely well investigated.

Very interesting, well told story but editing and addition of advertisements was very poor.

The way he spoke to and shamed Jane was disgusting. She was a victim of child sexual assault and emotional abuse by the hands of Hamish. Ruined the entire program for me.

Genuinely shocking this was produced by a major newspaper in 2023. Calling a grown man’s abuse of a child an “affair” was quite a repulsive choice. Also there were so many gross swallowing and gulping noises that weren’t edited out of the IRL recorded interviews. Sometimes the journalist would...Read full review »

This podcast was such great storytelling! No episode felt unnecessary, and despite my limited knowledge of the financial world Hamish operated in, I still was able to understand the impact of his duplicity. I’m also glad that the final episode referred to him as a predator and clarified that his...Read full review »

Jane was groomed by a predator she would not have had the mental capacity at 16-17 to understand what was happening to her only downside to this podcast was that this wasn’t portrayed to her and the interviewer having a bit more compassion for that , other then that great podcast

Give the listener some warning before ads. Eg “Hamish was a psychopath and a liar escape the Telstra price rise”. See what I mean?

Seriously one of the best podcasts I’ve listened to. How brave and generous of you you to share your life’s experience.

I do enjoy a good financial/relationship fraud true crime podcast. This was a quality one. It was so enjoyable I listened to it twice.

This story was horrific and well told, but dear God, Jane was groomed by a predator, she didn’t make a bad decision. She was 16. This guy conned everyone, and I hope she understands that now - not her choice, and Jack obviously understands that too.
DocJulz via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 11/16/22
This was an interesting true crime story, but my GOD the handling of child sexual abuse was horrendous. “[Jack] must have had a big heart to forgive you.” 😱😱😱 Do people in Australia seriously not know what grooming and sexual abuse is???? If not, maybe you could have interviewed an expert and...Read full review »

I really enjoyed this podcast it was a great binge listen, although unlike most people I actually couldn’t really connect with Jane and felt she knew what she was doing and was swept up in it all the money and cars. I still felt she was speaking in a way trying to sound more then she is. I found...Read full review »

I’m absolutely loving this podcast after my sister recommended it to me. I lived in NZ for years and so miss a lot of the news in Aus and NZ now I’m in the UK. I love it but I am absolutely shocked and disgusted at the lack of empathy for ‘Jane’ who was a minor and who was clearly groomed and...Read full review »

I don’t know why this isn’t towards the top of the list. This was a fascinating story ! This a wild story of Hamish who could Scam & Con with the best of them. He may be the Best. Great Podcast!

I totally agree with other reviews. Age of consent varies by location, but the adults in this story should have more compassion for Jane. Hamish’s behavior was predatory and despicable. No one seems to have protected Jane. I guess the adults in her life were also groomed. It’s just so awful that...Read full review »

Please revisit with Jane and make sure it’s clear to viewers and her that she was a minor and he was abusing HER! She was not at fault. It would’ve been good to make sure that was clear to her during her interview. I changed my rating based on that interview. Ruined the entire thing.

As a CPA in America I find white collar crime fascinating. This is a very well done podcast that delves into the lives of Hamish’s victims. It’s just so amazing that he wasn’t caught sooner. Excellent non biased reporting!

I feel for all the victims including Jane. When she said “I looked that lady in the eyes” meaning Beck I teared up.. It was at that moment I feel Jane needed a more tender touch in the interview. A complex and gripping story of lies, and a trail of victims. Jane’s story breaks my heart, I just want to give her a hug and tell her that as a teenager being groomed by a manipulative sociopath, it is not her fault what happened. He left victim after victim behind him, and she did not cause him...Read full review »

What a crazy tale….. so many lessons brilliant work to the team. That poor young girl was groomed, she tells her story so eloquently. I pray she goes back to school and makes a good life for herself and for her grandparents x

I hope that Jane will forgive herself for getting played by the conniving bastard that robbed so many adults. She was only a teenager when she was manipulated and I feel sorry to hear her in tears.

Listening to Jane makes me vomit, the way she makes herself to be the victim is disgusting. She slept with her boyfriend’s stepdad, a 17 year old, full of lies and deceit and disrespect to Bec and Jack. How can Jane ever show her face around Blueys Beach? She deserved to be played by Hamish....Read full review »

I can’t believe he got away with this for so long. Of all his victims I think Jane’s story impacted me the most. She was a child and he groomed her but that does not seem to be recognised and the guilt she carries is heartbreaking to me
Kyliewysy via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 06/08/21
Jane was a child who was groomed by a predator. Journalists must do better in how they interview child victims of sexual abuse. The Jane episode is victim blaming to the max... she was a victim of a psycho as a CHILD!
gabyown via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 05/17/21
A great story and fascinating glimpse into the mind of someone who doesn’t think like I do. I did get a little bored in some places because whomever edited it didn’t have the strength to ‘kill their darlings’ and make it tighter.

Good podcast, but FYI- a 40 something year old man does not “have an affair” with a 16 year old, as is repeatedly stated by the presenter.

I’m so disappointed with the way Jane’s story was handled. She wasn’t another girlfriend of Hamish’s, she was a victim of child sexual abuse. The way the host handled her interview and segment of the story is horrendous.

This really hits home for those of us who have been drawn in by cons and narcissists. Hopefully, people will hear this and see the warning signs. Great reporting!!!

This podcast follows the path of destruction of an Australian criminal, and - like all the best true crime podcasts - also shines a light on a society that allows (and sometimes encourages) the narcissism / criminality.

Great podcast, but why aren’t you naming Hamish a pedophile as well as a prolific conman? He had a sexual relationship with ‘Jane’, a 16 year old girl and she has felt the responsibility and guilt all these years. He is a predator and she is an innocent victim. She should not be held to blame for...Read full review »
