Sarah always makes sense: try this podcast!
Wish I had found Sarah Baldwin a decade ago! This new podcast will help so many. The first EPISODE blew me away. Sarah lays it all out in plain English and examples. My daughter is convinced CBT is the way to improve mental health. At my age I KNOW from Sarah and the neuroscience that CBT is not the best way to heal her nervous system. Why? Well, it never healed me, but there's a better reason: Because 80% of information travels subcortically from our bodies to our brains. Only 20% of information travels from our brain to our body! That’s WHY a somatic approach is so effective- when we change what’s happening in our bodies, it changes what’s happening in our brains too. As Sarah repeats so often, "You make sense." The way our nervous system protects us makes perfect sense. Our Autonomic Nervous System is subcortical (below the cortex), which means it cannot understand a cognitive, spoken language. That’s why we can’t just use CBT to self-talk our way out of how we’re feeling. To shift our dysregulation, we must learn to speak the embodied language of our nervous system, which is somatic in nature. When we begin to feel safe, then perhaps using a CBT can add value on top of that. Sarah's podcast is going to take her listeners on this journey that she too has traveled.Read full review »
