“Overall, I like this podcast so far. The only reason I gave 4 instead of 5 stars is because some of the statements about medications, while “no judgement” may be intended, are still harmful to those who need to take medication and add to the stigma of mental health and psychotropic medications, which really doesn’t need anymore fuel.
I’m an adolescent psych Registered Nurse and recently (finally!) diagnosed with ADHD and have seen how significantly medications can help those with moderate to severe ADHD be able to function well in their lives. Personally, taking medication has improved my brain enough so that I can actually organize myself enough to make and plan for healthier choices in diet and activity.
While unhealthy lifestyle choices can mimic the symptoms of ADHD, ADHD is not a lifestyle disease, it is a combination of nature and nurture that causes real and measurable changes in brain physiology.
Some people need to take medications, and that is ok. I agree that treatment should not end at prescription optimization, but when used properly, they can be an excellent tool to support people in continuing past that with brain-healthy lifestyle changes.”
