Amazing journalism. Such a shocking, yet engaging story. Thank you for telling this story. I hope that young people who might not otherwise think through their actions, will hear this story.

Absolutely insightful what the papers can never shed light on, the intricacies, the sorrow, the pain, wonderful compassionate journalism still asks the questions we are all screaming in our head ….

Fabulous, non-bias account of the westerners caught up with ISIS. Both seasons are compelling and I highly recommend.

While this has been a riveting listen, I was constantly disappointed in the fact that Josh kept skimming over the fact that Shameema was a CHILD when she made these ‘choices’. He keeps asking her to take responsibility for what she did, when the responsibility really lies elsewhere - with the...Read full review »

Risked his life to bring us this story. I love how he questioned everything. Perfect.

Season 1: This is an example of strong journalism that needs more input from members of the Muslim community and an intersectional approach. The host needs to do more to distinguish between ISIS and Islam. By focusing all of the attention on this white woman, the host fails to interrogate the...Read full review »

I have listened to both seasons of I’m not a monster twice. Your story telling is compelling, empathetic and important. You are truly an inspiration.

This podcast was so well researched. The story was truly captivating and of very high quality, it was great to listen to something that was thoroughly investigated, yet so easy to follow and listen to.

Ms.Begum was a 15 year old teenager girl, when she left England. She is a young woman who has buried 3 children, 2 who literally starved to death, I’m shocked that no acknowledgement of that has been taken into consideration, she was not there for decades, only 4 years, I think that’s reversible....Read full review »

Best in class documentary. Josh Baker & Sara Obeidat did an excellent job impartially narrating the stories of Samantha Elhassani & Shamima Begum. There’s something to learn for everyone in this documentary.

Really hoping there is going to be a Season 3! Both seasons excellent in very different ways.

This is quality journalism! I have felt shock, compassion, sorrow, unease, anger, sadness, empathy. Very eye opening, the storytelling is unbelievably compelling and I could not stop listening.

After listening to this a couple of times, what really becomes clear is that there are 2 types of journalists in the world. The brilliant Josh Baker and Anthony Lloyd who probe the facts with impartiality and fairness with the sole intention of gathering facts. And then there’s the aggressive...Read full review »

Brilliant podcast! Gripping. We all know what a heartless person SB is, but listening to her speak, blaming her family and having no compassion for her mum when she was crying down the phone, she really is a piece of work. I think her fellow student summed her up brilliantly. ‘She was a...Read full review »

The last time I felt like that listening to a podcast was when I discovered Serial a few years ago. I’m not a monster is incredibly well written, has a great production, and tells an unbelievable story. Amazing journalism. I love it!

Interesting stories, the narration keeps you engage to the story. As the events are presented it I kept debating if these people were involve or just irresponsible who made very poor decisions. I hope season 3 comes soon.

Well researched . Insightful, balanced and clever journalism . As for Shamina , one thing she’s not ( after all of this and losing three children to malnutrition and avoidable illness ) a threat to National security - and I hope she can get her passport back .

This was produced VERY well. I would be anticipating the next episode like I would watching my favorite TV show as a kid, with each episode ending only you on to wanting more!
taggman96 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 12/23/23
Awe-inspiring journalism. Shamima seems like a broken, lost, deeply unintelligent person. She is also a frustrating person because she takes almost no accountability for any of her actions and tries to paint herself as someone with zero agency, yet she traveled 3,000 miles as a 15 year old to...Read full review »

I am listening to podcasts every day, for years now - and this one, which I listened to 2 years ago, is still the best. So impressed by your work and the courage of the whole crew. Thank you. Will listen again (and that’s a first).

Amazed by the extensive research and interviews with all those involved. Tells a story, provides you with the information but it’s up to you to form an opinion either way.
ninahaydock via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/16/23
This should be really interesting about why a 16 year old girl ran away from a stable background to join Isis. Instead of that why we get hours and hours of how. Not even the interesting how (like how they duped their family and friends) but literally how they did it in terms of transport. Plot...Read full review »
