I don’t like to leave a one star because the maker of this podcast has done a good and professional job, but I find myself unable to give it more because of the content. I couldn’t stand the excuses and self pitying sob stories of the main character in this podcast. After a couple of episodes I...Read full review »

The whole tragedy here is that someone lost their life. However, the man who caused the accident was also a lesser victim. He clearly needed help and was probably suffering some form of trauma type illness. Could he have simply apologised to the victims family and sought to do some good work to...Read full review »

Nothing queried of this guys account, it is all very one sided. The reason why is jail sentence was increased is because he completed 2 more robberies while on bail from the ‘final’ robbery described in the podcast. It shouldn’t take an average joe soap googling to find information like this out!

Wonderfully told story balancing the effect of your bad choices and actions on others with your own limitations as a human being. It could happen to all of us. One action that can change the course of your life. His brutal honesty is inspiring and he could offer a lot to ex-prisoners who are...Read full review »

While it’s very sad what happened to that lovely man Rodger, I can’t understand why more compassion wasn’t shown to John at the time. He wasn’t under the influence of any substance. He was a young man out on a push bike doing his job. Yes he made a mistake going the wrong direction down a street....Read full review »

An incredible story, both heartbreaking for Roger and his family but also a story of hope.

I worked with one of John mcnallys daughters a short time after Rogers death and I remember her telling me the story about the accident and the guy who had knocked him down and what had happened. It was so interesting to hear the story from the other side,I couldn’t stop listening.I have sympathy...Read full review »

You speak your story well, with empathy and humility. Your gift to speak from both sides of societal divide is unique. You deserve to continue to live your life without prejudice. It could be any of us at any time in the same situation. We need to look at how we perceive persons in prison. And...Read full review »

I don’t understand why this podcast exists, it’s giving a very selfish criminal a platform and tries to elicit sympathy for him. The poor people who’s lives he negatively affected must feel awful to know this. I personally don’t give a damn about this man’s moaning about being a victim! He is not...Read full review »

John’s account of the accident was left completely unchallenged by the journalist in this podcast. In the interview. John’s account of striking the victim with his bicycle at 6 or 7 kph is laughable. The worst part is that the interviewer afterwards says that his access to witness statements and...Read full review »

How difficult it must be to share your inner self with all and sundry!! What a brave man to want to help others by doing just that. So well researched and sympathetic especially taking into account the ongoing distress of the accident victim’s family. Narration and interview were very...Read full review »

Totally compelling podcast. Cycling the wrong way up a street. I ve done it myself but for John and the Handy family it had catastrophic consequence leaving no winners. Just survivors.

I listened to it all in one go. How we never know really where our life journey will take us! I wish John and everyone else associated, involved, affected and traumatised - the very best in life going forward- “May you be well and May you find peace”.

I have so much compassion for all parties here . Very well presented Podcast that really delves into trauma and how we deal with this in different ways

I have listened to this podcast 4 times now, and each time I get something new from it. It is an incredibly well told account of how someone’s life can spiral out of control based on how they deal with a traumatic event.

A deeply moving account of one man’s journey through trauma, pain and redemption when his life changed in a single moment. John O’Hegarty may not feel redeemed, but he is. As a community, we could not have asked more of him. John has absolutely repaid his ‘debt’ to society. In many, many ways. We...Read full review »

Excellent story but the additional audio/clippings in parts of his story are annoying.

Very good. He is one of my closest friends. At the time he was doing the robberies even we had no idea. One of us read it in the paper when getting his hair cut - we couldn’t believe it - if you know John you couldn’t imagine him doing this stuff. But I know he has turned his life around...Read full review »

Came across this by accident but I’m glad I did, listened to all four episodes in one go. Extremely interesting to hear from all sides. I came across this pod by chance and when I started to listen I realised that I was one of the tellers in the bank the day he was caught. Very different to hear his point of view. Excellent reporting.
