It’s football and history, what could be better to listen to whilst working away.

Already a fan of Jonathan Wilson, I stumbled across this podcast and gave it a try. Now it is one of my essential listens each week. I love the depth, the tone and choice of subject matter. As a football fan I think the background and rich narrative this podcast adds to my understanding of...Read full review »

I could very happily listen to Wilson talk about football history all day. His mind is a wunderkammer of facts and dates, his ability to investigate influences, draw connections and make postulations is second to none. Coupled with Draper’s journalism this pod is wonderful in its...Read full review »

There have been a few football history podcasts that have come and gone, but this one really is great. The hosts are at the absolute top of their game, and so far there has been a great variety of topics which they can bring their deep knowledge to and personal anecdotes. I really hope this...Read full review »

Love this podcast and listen every week. It was great to hear the Brian Clough impersonation. However, I was really disappointed that no imitation of Sir Alf’s clipped tones was attempted.

What a great pod. And a subject that’s long overdue. Wilson and Draper are a perfect pair and tell the stories in such a captivating way. Keep these coming guys. Bravo!

This is a dream podcast for me. Huge fan of Jonathan Wilson, and he dovetails delightfully with Rob Draper as football nostalgia combines with historical context. Love hearing their views on stories that I am both familiar and unfamiliar with, while learning about the theory and political aspects...Read full review »

Brilliant level of knowledge, as you’d fully expect from anything Wilson is involved in, but given the podcast stable, the backing and the advertisements, it’s genuinely amazing how bad Draper’s sound quality is. Get the man a decent mic and improve the production!

Brilliantly researched and full of detail as you would expect from the great Jonathan Wilson. I look forward to the episodes each week. Someone should do a cricket version too….👍

Have really enjoyed listening to these, especially the Liverpool in Rome one. Just a side note on that episode, Phil Neal tells the story that he was meant to be the first penalty taker but Steve Nicol just decided to go first regardless and he was allowed to carry on as it was thought that...Read full review »

I really like the premise but the audio quality from Rob Draper’s microphone made it unlistenable to me. I hate sounding like such an audio snob but it feels like such a basic thing to get right if you want something to be successful.

Really interesting and insightful podcast with well researched details and anecdotes from (what I hope will continue to feature), key matches. Engaging and knowledgeable presenters too-what more could you ask for?

Really enjoying these dives into historical football events. Keep them coming. Would love to hear one on Celtic ‘67 as mooted in the Liverpool ‘84 episode.

A really interesting and well researched podcast. Love how they have ripped off the rest of history quote introductions

At last there’s a podcast about football that isn’t the usual banter about what is happening in the Premier League. Linking football history to today’s game is innovative and will interest both casual and die hard fans alike. Rob Draper in particular is excellent and I hope he continues to drop...Read full review »

This is a really interesting podcast - it has the classic dynamic of the knowledge and the light-hearted guidance (although I wish Rob Draper would invest in a microphone - in-built computer mics are terrible). Jonathan Wilson doesn’t need a script to tell the story, which is great and all the...Read full review »

Whilst this doesn’t fill the hole left by the demise of Wilson’s ‘Greatest Games’ podcast I’ve wolfed down the first three eps. Great stuff, also managed to reduce the number of Sunderland references that litter the great man’s work. Only negative…terrible name for a podcast

Some great football chat with the always excellent Jonathan Wilson.

Delighted that Wilson has his own podcast that plays to his strength — I read every column he writes. Mr Draper is an excellent co-host, equally knowledgeable and engaging. The first three episodes have been excellent. They’ve covered stories I’m old enough to have lived through, so a nostalgic...Read full review »

Worst Podcast title imaginable - how did something so lumpen get selected? What else was on the list- ‘Stuff That Happened’?. It also feels misleading - by elevating events into a wider historical context and importance, the opposite to this title would appear true I.e. it turned out to be much...Read full review »

Great show. Wilson is the greatest football historian of our time.

Listened to the first part of your podcast on the Liverpool v Arsenal title decider from 1989. It was compelling and I look forward to part 2, despite being a Liverpool fan! However, I have to take issue with one moment in the show when I heard an oft-repeated myth trotted out. I’ve been a...Read full review »

A very enjoyable first episode. I was in the away end for the 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford where the banner was unveiled and I remember the deafening sound of “Fergie out.” We (Palace) were good that day, but we had lost 9-0 to Liverpool just a couple of months before. And I was at the two finals...Read full review »

Excellent first episode- big coincidence how the history of Palace vs Man U comes up the day after Palace beat them 4-0!
