This podcast is one of the very best I’ve had the privilege of listening to. As a mother and so-called radical, this story hit me like a gut punch—especially when hearing from the children of the revolutionaries. Especially well-done in its nuanced approach to issues of race, revolutionary...Read full review »

What a great show, it brought back so many memories. My father worked for the “Citizens Action Committee”, he helped poor people of all races to get housing and jobs in the late 60s early 70s. He was also from Chicago and was familiar with some of the revolutionary people spoken about in this...Read full review »

In an attempt to showcase multicultural support for civil rights, we somehow created a whole series glorifying white contributions (some of which were terrorist acts) that supported of the downfall of the Black Panthers. A masterclass in saviorism, I left disappointed to have listened to this...Read full review »

Amazing podcast. I knew some of this but not much. If I’d had access to this info as a young white activist, it would have changed my life. It still will!

So well done. I remember some news about the Weathermen and bombings, but I was born in the sixties, so I was a little kid. My family was saturated with Jewish intellectualism and socialist interests. This felt familiar, but not. These people were a different generation. Their specific...Read full review »

Oh Dohrn, this is good! This is the best kind of history lessons! Somebunny learned about the Weather Underground through Rage Against the Machine years ago and it’s amazing to hear the rest of the story.

Important, historical, riveting, accurate, compelling, disturbing and truthful!!! I’m sure I could come up with more adjectives if I took the time but I still have 2 episodes to hear and must do that now!!

This was such a engrossing listen I am sorry it’s over. I thought I knew this story but there are layers upon layers to it. Great production values, thoughtful analysis and Tupac Shakur’s mother! A+++

I grew up in Glen Ellyn and have always been curious about Bill Ayers, so this podcast fascinates me on many levels. It’s so well done and especially interesting to hear this story from Bill and Bernadine’s son. Hoping for a Season 2. My mother lived in fear in the 70s that I would take off and become a hippie, yippie, or a member of some domestic terrorist group. I took History of the 60s in college but feel like I learned way more from this podcast than I would in any class. Why
Loved it …. Also raged . white privilege allowed these folks to have families “go under cover “ really blending in among whites …… live ………….. while black revolutionaries died.

This is a very well done treatment of this material, from a nuanced and thoughtful perspective that is different from historical accounts I’ve encountered before. Brings up all sorts of questions about parenthood and familial relationships, as well as the more obvious topics.

Enjoyed hearing this well told story. While I find many things to admire in the movement and the struggle, there still seems to be a disregard to the lives taken and how the victims in those families had their lives ruined. Lastly, the idea that the recall of Chesa was led by a right wing...Read full review »

…and of course heartening. No mention of Panthers in prison as the pod wound up was a bit puzzling. For their self-critique, commitment, discipline and self-sacrifice, the legacy for their nearest and dearest is predictably messy. Hopefully others, less hurt, can take inspiration.
